Imagine calling someone aware of the negative environmental impact AI has "ignorant" because they don't support AI...

What kinda troglodyte s*** is that lmao

i think he called you ignorant because you said "dont care , not listening , not reading.

one of the lowest forms of argumentation is attacking the person arguing instead of the arguments being made

Yeah man I'm not supporting an "artist" willingly contributing to the destruction of the environment so they can create vapid AI slop and pathetically justify it.

If that's "ignorance" (it isn't) so be it.

Idk man i have yet to find someone with a valid stance. each argument becomes hypocritical to some degree. Are you an environmentalist?

I am against environmental racism that impacts Black and Latino communities. AI data centers directly contribute to environmental racism.

That is a more than valid stance against AI. Especially when it is being used in the arts. Something humans have been capable of doing without the use of AI for thousands of years.

There's also the thing with AI where it's literally contributing to the destruction of the planet, and the exploitation of resources in predominantly Black towns/cities in the south.

All that, just to create some bullshit nobody even gonna remember years from now...ah yeah man. AI is just so important/crucial to the creative process.

    F*** y'all.

This is a great point. I think we absolutely should criticize big tech for their unethical practices. The environmental and social cost is super harmful. However, I don't think a person using AI makes them morally culpable. The same infrastructure that powers AI powers the whole internet, so we're both contributing to it right now. It’s true that more use can incentivize more data centers, but that’s a systemic issue. The responsibility lies with the companies that build this infrastructure imo, not individual users.

I asked Chat GPT to give me a long list of random, obscure word combinations. One of the combos it gave me was "alabaster scream". I made a poem out of it. Here it is:

    Alabaster Scream

    An alabaster scream
    comes white-hot and stolid

And we've been trying to sculpt it
    into a beautiful woman

Do you think it's fair to discount my poem based on the fact that AI was used to create the title?

    love a good discount ngl

Valid stance. The key should be pushing for sustainable, ethical AI instead of rejecting it altogether. tbh what u said has been the best argument out of everyone in here

abdicating personal responsibility is a common type of behavior that contributes to so many of the problems we have in our society right now

ultimately it's impossible to live some morally perfect life but at the same time it is never all or nothing. does one need to only buy new clothes made by what are essentially slaves in other countries? not likely. does one need to buy meat that was grown in countries where crops are fed to those animals instead of the local starving children?* not likely. does one need to completely denounce every aspect of the internet and forfeit use entirely? not likely. but similarly is using AI necessary? not likely

Is it likely that you can campaign for changes in AI regulations? No. Or contribute to passing a law in a foreign country that dictates what they do with their grain and animals? No. Or create more robust labor laws in the countries making cheap clothing? No. But can you make the personal change to decide you will not abide by it and you will not support or pay for it. And you can encourage others to do so.

ARC Raiders out now 2nd week in a row at #1 on Steam. Game of the Year contender. Uses AI generated voices

Universally loved by gamers and critics

Except for performative clowns like Eurogamer writers, who gave a 2/5 review because they're mad the game uses ethically-generated AI voices, trained from hired voice actors

Eurogamer is getting roasted for being cornballs

Tides are turning on people realizing AI can be used by artists as a tool. Anyway yall have fun going back and forth about this. Enjoyed reading the rare good faith discussions there's been ITT

Ai is only slightly cool for bullshit memes and jokes. Should be banned for anything creative or serious.

Sorry. But no, theres no reason to really use it for idea generation, When we have brains for that

I will always be proudly anti-AI in art.

Anybody with a creative bone in their body should be.

    Loser.

AI is a buzzword bro ur talking about a million different things which are on a spectrum where the opposite ends have almost nothing left in conmon w each other creatively, ethically, or in any other way.

if you're so proudly anti-AI u also need to stop using Google or any other search engine (even without the "AI"), that's always been a form of intelligence gathering you the correct hits for your search

if you interrogate your own logic for only 2 seconds it doesn't hold with the reality of what you're living

without "AI" probably a vast majority of modern medical procedures or academic research wouldn't be possible. you don't even have the slightest idea of what you're talking about.

    I get it.

Nobody wants to have a nuanced discussion about AI because it's such an easy topic to throw performative swings at.

But, it's the new Google. It's not going away.

i feel like most ppl who reject a.i as a powerful tool just haven’t seen what it’s capable of outside “write this for me”

as much as i like it for certain use cases, i respect how people are taking a stance against it because of its ecological consequences and neo mcolonial implications

but even that is a little disingenuous bc most modern cell phones demand slave labor

so i feel like the masses reactions are less from a genuine place and more so out of fear of the unknown
