I’m surprised so many people agree with op post lol. It’s wild how we been complaining about the lack of music discussion and then when we get music discussion it’s a problem lol. To make it crazy only a few people even jumped on the trend to begin with. I don’t get the letting time pass in between albums take because if an album stick with me, I’m going back to revisit that s*** regardless at a later time. I honestly thought that went without saying tho.

Also if you consume media in a different period of your life you see it differently

That’s why I think I liked SRS only two years later

I guess the reason is while watching a movie it’s easier to focus on the movie and with music you usually do something else while listening to it so you’re distracted

But yeah I rarely change my mind about a movie, but if I listen to an album 3-4 times I might change my mind about it

I get this, it applies to listening to the same album multiple times. But for OP to say you can’t listen to multiple albums in a short timespan because you can’t let each one digest is what I disagree with. All you gotta do is let each album digest lol

i mean, setting aside how many listens it takes to fully digest an album enough to have a credible opinion on it (i'd say 3 usually), the threads are more for encouraging discussion of an artist than anything else and that's a healthy thing for the site

Can’t you listen to a bunch of albums in a short timespan and wait a while to relisten to each one tho?

That's called skimming and it's deemed disrespectful by some. I did it for a few people when I found out how to torrent whole discographies but realized pretty quickly I prefer to listen to an album for a while and let the deep cuts reveal themselves before I move on

This whole entire thread is why I will never take KTT2 seriously. Like it’s a serious F YOU to some of you. People are not just “skimming” through music, they’re discovering or rediscovering older artists who they may not have heard earlier on. No one is claiming to be an elite critic. It’s just a fun way to get music discussion and appreciation going again. Like seriously? Some of you guys are miserable, especially OP.

I think when you see a thread like this you realize it’s usually a first reaction and it’s interesting to see people’s first reaction to things even if they might change later

I understand what you’re saying I used to want to caught up into every “essential” album so I listened to a lot of classics in a very short time span and it became a task I didn’t actually appreciate the music so now I just listen to whatever I like at my own pace

That being said challenges like this are fun to do and read about, I remember someone on KTT1 tried to listen to the entirety of 500 greatest albums of all time by Rolling Stone, obviously it took him a lot of time but I thought that’s a cool thing to do

lol why y’all acting like we have to choose between having a sxn full of half assed reviews of albums by attention seeking users or a sxn full of sales talk??? like i think this misunderstanding has caused a lot of people to react a lot more harshly to this thread than was ever warranted

It does happen that sometimes I would check an album and then I only appreciate it way later

It happened to me with Mac Miller Swimming because it dropped the same day as Astroworld so I ended up not giving it the attention and let it sit

However I think that’s usually our experience listening to a new album and vocalizing our opinion about it… these threads aren’t different from any album discussion old or new

Yeah I know that’s skimming, I thought you were talking about doing that and just replied to that so nvm there

But even with listening to an album for a long while and letting the deep cuts reveal themselves (which I assume most of us here do), can you not do that with multiple albums at once?

The same people complaining about this trend are the same ones who complain and ask about “why we don’t talk about the music instead of sales or gossip?”

Now we’re actually talking about the music and some of you guys think it’s lame because we don’t “leT iT mArInAtE” for a amount of time? Like y’all deserve nothing but sales and gossip threads at this point if you actually see a real problem with this. It’s been all cool and supportive in those threads until OPs trifling ass came along. Don’t like it? Just ignore it like I do with the lame sales threads and hot take Friday’s.

and my whole point is i bet most of the OPs of the threads aren’t actually letting every album digest. the daily “challenge” format they’ve chosen just doesn’t allow for it imo. i just wanted to bring some attention to the potential negative effects of this trend of threads, wasn’t trying to ruin anyone’s fun
