whenever someone points out a song on the radio like the dj is in the know i always think its not them being in the know, its their spotify algorithm doing what its programmed to do. the art of pulling out a cool album cut from out your bag is long gone
Sounds like I need to buy a deck like I’ve always wanted to and put in the work for the past
never understood the desire to be spoonfed art by an algorithm

people forget the value brought to music (and other art) appreciation by finding it through other people or deliberately seeking it out individually
conversations about the artist, hearing someone else talk a little bit about why they like them, enjoying it in the physical company of other people
imagine a world where everyone just has all their music auto-chosen for them. having no context or knowledge of it whatsoever, just treating it as a product they consume and forget about afterward. I've kinda seen this with some friends that will rec a song to me and then not be able to have any other convo about it and just say it popped up in their algorithm that's it. just a product that feels good to consume without much connection
kinda exaggerating and I'm really not trying to pretentiously look down on people who use recommendations but yeah
not a big deal
it’s literally not

yeah there's the social component of sharing and talking about music that this essentially completely neuters, which is why the people in here saying "it's not a big deal, lol xD" are missing the entire point lol
i follow some channels for sampling and they have whole hangouts and meetups with their record collections where they play all of these obscure soul records and s*** live, it's one of the coolest things to see and there's even a sort of language that everyone has with each other where everyone will know certain obscure records and some won't etc.
nowadays with the advent of AI things like DJ sets or even amassing your own personal record collection is being stripped of any actual connection or work involved with finding music and it's being prepackaged into these predefined boxes of "authenticity" lmao
TL;DR: papi algo

Pretty much what killed music discussions and further devalued music instead it’s just entertainment today even in how interviews are conducted
like i said, a lotta of y'all niggas just love technology
they love convenience
Here come mfers crying again. Ppl acting like they’re forced to use this s***

i cant deny the obvious usefulness of having super smart recommendations based on stuff you already like. and i mean i guess it is totally possible to use that but still also seek the full appreciation and knowledge that we're talking about. but something just feels very off to me
same thing that makes me feel like people will be okay with AI generated music. it'll just pop up in their algorithm and they won't even know or care if it's AI generated, it's just meaningless audio wallpaper that sounds good and fits their vibe

im not forced to use netflix, but i see what it has done to the film industry and i love movies so that sucks
i am not forced to stream music and dont, but i see what it has done to devalue music and how the market has adjusted to that and it sucks as a music lover
