Pretty much what killed music discussions and further devalued music instead it’s just entertainment today even in how interviews are conducted
yeah its definitely a conversation that goes along with the devaluing of music convo
never understood the desire to be spoonfed art by an algorithm
for people that dont actually love music/shows/movies and just see it as background content
Here come mfers crying again. Ppl acting like they’re forced to use this s***
papi algo enjoyer
y'all love the state and whatever the media forces down ur throat
make music consumption great again, have niggas actually go out of their way to find new music, connect with it, cherish it please
what happened to the game that i loved
i cant deny the obvious usefulness of having super smart recommendations based on stuff you already like. and i mean i guess it is totally possible to use that but still also seek the full appreciation and knowledge that we're talking about. but something just feels very off to me
same thing that makes me feel like people will be okay with AI generated music. it'll just pop up in their algorithm and they won't even know or care if it's AI generated, it's just meaningless audio wallpaper that sounds good and fits their vibe
it's insane because niggas used to complain about guides and topsters for music discovery but at least an actual person sat down studied, absorbed the music, and put that topster/guide together for people to sit down and work through an artist
now the middleman is cut out and a robot is doing all the legwork
im not forced to use netflix, but i see what it has done to the film industry and i love movies so that sucks
i am not forced to stream music and dont, but i see what it has done to devalue music and how the market has adjusted to that and it sucks as a music lover
There are plenty of good movies coming out these days that have absolutely nothing to do with streaming or Netflix, what are you talking about? Just the fact that you’re conscious of the fact that Netflix is making slob tricks you into thinking the entire film industry has gone to s*** when it hasn’t.

this needs to be it's own thread fr
u not a #REALISTENER
I’m not even joking those recommendations playlist are horrible at picking good music, that’s why I don’t understand why yall feel so threatened

fuc.that.shit!! we are in the streaming and playlist era there is no need to go crate digging
ive been using that ai dj thing and all it really does is pull from the s*** you mostly listen to anyways.

im ribbing you bro
it isn't just about the actual content being s*** it's just the principles behind it is what im saying
spotify playlists based on snapshots of certain scenes, moods, whatever u wanna call it are super cool, having someone that actually aesthetically comprehends and understands what songs to fit into these themes and stuff is a crucial component of what makes them great and allows a proper mood to get captured (if you're even into these sorts of playlists anyways)
having an AI do it is just a mockery and soulless, it genuinely isn't that serious ig but it's hella lame and that's what we're really driving at lol

tweaking brother
the hunt is half the fun
we hate playlists
I see this as an easy and direct way to find new music. Spotify algorithm is pretty good when it comes to recommending new stuff. Way better at that than AM
people forget the value brought to music (and other art) appreciation by finding it through other people or deliberately seeking it out individually
conversations about the artist, hearing someone else talk a little bit about why they like them, enjoying it in the physical company of other people
imagine a world where everyone just has all their music auto-chosen for them. having no context or knowledge of it whatsoever, just treating it as a product they consume and forget about afterward. I've kinda seen this with some friends that will rec a song to me and then not be able to have any other convo about it and just say it popped up in their algorithm that's it. just a product that feels good to consume without much connection
kinda exaggerating and I'm really not trying to pretentiously look down on people who use recommendations but yeah
idk i feel like this is too big of a generalization. i’ve been posting on this site since 2010 been on /mu/, rym, the works but my favorite band atm i found through a random spotify suggestion. i did obviously check out the rest of their discography, follow them on social media, see them live etc. but i never would have come across them without being “spoon-fed” the recommendation

im more talking about the people who arent dedicated music fans who wouldnt make that connection that you made. and anyway im not really trying to say theres something inherently wrong about using it or finding s*** you like through it
not trying to generalize this to every single case, just saying its worth discussing if something might be lost to the overall music world as this becomes more and more dominant in the landscape
