Marvin Gaye What's Going On - from Mono to Atmos (this is a guided walkthrough of what Atmos changes
Apple Music Spatial Audio Section - Playlists, Albums, Singles mixed specially for Dolby Atmos

    FAQ:What is being added?

There are two new things being added to Apple Music. The first is lossless audio quality. This allows for people with certain devices to stream Apple Music's library in full lossless quality. For 99% of people this is meaningless as people cannot tell the difference between regular quality and lossless. The other thing being added is Dolby Atmos audio. This requires the song or album to be mixed specifically with Dolby Atmos. There's a library of around 500-1000 songs available that have been updated with Dolby Atmos support.

    What is Dolby Atmos?

Dolby Atmos® is an innovative audio technology that envelops you in an immersive listening experience. While music mixed in stereo is limited to left and right channels, music created in Dolby Atmos is freed from channels, allowing artists to place individual sounds all around you. Artists can also decide the volume, size, and vibrancy of each instrument to reveal nuanced details in the music.

    How do I get it?

All Apple Music subscribers using the latest version of Apple Music on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV7 can listen to thousands of Dolby Atmos music tracks using any headphones. When you listen with compatible Apple or Beats headphones,8 Dolby Atmos music plays back automatically when available for a song. For other headphones, go to Settings > Music > Audio and set Dolby Atmos to Always On. You can also hear Dolby Atmos music using the built‑in speakers on a compatible iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro, or HomePod,9 or by connecting your Apple TV 4K to a compatible TV or audiovisual receiver. Information is limited but it seems like that AirPods Pro and AirPods Max have Atmos music work better thanks to their gyroscope and spatial features.

    What headphones are eligible?

It will work in full with AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. It will also work (potentially in a limited capacity) with AirPods, Beats X, Beats Solo3, Beats Studio 3, PowerBeats 3, Beats Flex, Powerbeats Pro and Beats Solo Pro. It also works with built in speakers on the newer iPhone and iPads

How do I know if it's working?

On the now playing screen you will see a Dolby Atmos logo. this means it's working.

What's the difference for Atmos between AirPods Pro/Max and my other headphones?

Basically if you're on other headphones the music benefits from a mix designed in Dolby Atmos and then mixed down to stereo
so some songs will sound better cause the mixing will be much better especially in terms of panning

if you have AirPods Pro/max then you need to be on iOS 15 to access spatial audio. This tracks to your head position basically simulating surround sound and using the Dolby Atmos mixes in that framework

it has to be on your phone or pc? also i have an iphone bit not subscribed to apple music monthly is that maybe why ?

Tbh it's kinda pointless that it's mostly just for Airpods. I get that the Airpods are pretty okay at separating all the channels..but what's the point of using their Atmos music if I can't play it on my actual Atmos speaker setup? I'll sadly be sticking with Tidal since that has real Atmos playback.

Yes and no. Your Sennheisers will have better sound quality via lossless (depending on the senns you have) but the airpods can potentially have a better sound stage. I'd take the quality from lossless matched with your senns (again depending on which senns)

only 24bit works with a DAC. you can play the 16bit lossless just fine. I'm going to doubt that you have the headphones to notice the difference between 24bit and 16bit

SERIOUSLY?! F*** I'm so mad that Apple doesn't support real Atmos setups yet. Tidal doesn't have MBDTF :(

You just have to wait till you're lucky enough to have it show up in the app. My iPad got it but my iPhone hasn't

I think it does work with surround speaker set ups - its just if youre using non-apple headphones its not gonna have the right codecs to play in Atmos rather than stereo

if youre playing it on a surround system that supports Atmos I think it will work. but you can try it
