Again, only on this site is this take even slightly respectable lol nobody that I know or speak to listens to new hip hop, not people that I know to be genuine hip hop fans, not casuals like coworkers or younger and older family members. I work at a high school around a bunch teenagers and I would say around 10-20% of them listen to hip hop. Nobody wants to hear that new s***, man. Nobody except a minority of people who happen to be on this site want to listen to the same Tay Keith production with incoherent vocal performances and violent and unpleasant lyrics on it. Where the f*** am I even supposed to listen to that? In what setting? I don’t want to hear that s*** on my way to work in the morning, the drive home after a long day of labor, at a club (none of it is even fun enough to sing along to, that s*** scares the hoes), at the beach, etc. Lmao the only acceptable setting is driving obnoxiously in your neighborhood with the windows down, MAYBE at the gym, or in your earphones lmao all of it is so unpleasant to listen to and niche sounding. It isn’t our nostalgia. This s*** is just ass dog

I feel like you’re over exaggerating here lol but do you.

Yea rappers just aren’t trying hard anymore . No one is competitive

None of the new dudes are really trying to craft a MBDTF level project that shakes up the game and applies pressure

because what is the reward for this amount of energy and effort?

But then again you’re probably not black 9/10 so I can see the people around you being out of touch, especially these so called high school kids you work with.

Saying this site is in the minority for liking that style of music is hilarious.

Man it’s multiple sub genres and styles of hip hop. If you can’t find anything good, that’s just on you. A lot of us are genuinely enjoying hip hop and it seem like some of you are mad that we can do that. Which is why you folk feel the need to make the same tired threads everyday lol.

    This tired ass thread idea

There is NOTHING wrong with todays rap people are just miserable and can’t accept the fact that times change (which is wild coming from me cuz I have severe nostalgia depression sometime)

Like let me compare this to 80’s pop music. There will never be another 80’s. People can try to replicate it and they can do a good job but we all know that it’s not the same. And that’s ok. So

We also need to be comfortable with accepting that the market has less demand for hip hop nowadays. It's past its commercial prime, but it's still trucking along creatively, and that's what's most important

What other projects do you think are worth listing to this decade? In 2023? Always open to listening to new music. I personally love the female rappers right now. I think the people who think the culture is dead are ignoring their contributions

You need to bump "Sometimes I Might Be Introvert" and "King's Disease III" asap, just for starters. Former is GKMC tier idgaf

So, what are you suggesting? That the only acceptable explanation for the disconnect is that everybody who is unhappy with the current state of hip hop is just not black? Lol you are right in that I’m not black. I am Latino. However, my entire life hip hop was providing the soundtrack to our everyday lives around here and now it isn’t. Not for people my age (I’m pushing 30), not for a lot of the kids I work around, and apparently not a lot of people on this site either. I don’t understand how it’s so difficult to accept that a lot of the newer and more popular rappers are just not making good-sounding music. It’s so weird. Like, for example, I used to be a huge Dom Kennedy fan (I still enjoy his music). After around Get Home Safely, his music got noticeably mid. People were even spreading rumors on Twitter that the dude had a stroke and it affected his rapping style to explain the dip in quality. I kept listening and supporting, but it was very easy to be honest and concede that even tho I still found ways to enjoy it, it wasn’t as good as it was before lol how is that so hard for a lot of you to do?

Not reading past the first couple sentences but yeah when you said nobody around you is listening that’s what gave it away, especially if you’re living in a major city lol. Even the older crowds around me know about Durk, Polo, Lil Baby, Gunna , Uzi and them. Not even go mention the kids, the ones that really love them. This site is far from the minority

Youngboy has truly changed my whole entire life. I was first a clueless, senseless individual, until YB. He took me under his wing and guided me through his delightful path. I have since then changed into a charming handsome man. I wish all other non-YB listeners will at last find this path as it will lead to the whole world being in harmony and peace at last. No single individual outshining others such as Kentrell has
been graced to us since the beginning of time.
When miracles like James Johnson Ill touch down to our planet, the clouds clear and the birds start chirping. I wouldnt be so surprised if YB is the reason we are able to breathe, eat, and hear everyday. When YB is played upon the ears of one, they come at peace, being able to outmaneuver and look down on others.
If one is not fond of YB, vou can take a observation out of the others, they are sad, unjoyful, and melancholy. They do not understand that would take a bullet for us, just as we would for him. It is truly enraging today that these who disrespect Youngboy are continuously allowed to withhold opinions
today. Youngboy i jus wanted to let you know ur my hero
At dark times when i feel i'm alone or i'm going thru things by myself I juss turn you on
Before my games i listen to you because you juss give me tht inspiration of energy
You are my king, You are who i look up to when i need a role model
Your my savior, You the one that makes me happy or feel i'm not alone in a lot of situations where i can't even find myself
You are my deliverer, You just put some source of energy and some source of inspiration in me that nobody else can
Kentrell when i first ever heard ur music i knew you was gon be great
I was juss blown on how a 16 year old can drop such great music.
Kentrell all 26 albums that you dropped are just peace to my ears and joy to my soul.
I did school projects on you, You stay in my airpods in school, Your juss great October 10, 2019 when you dropped that album Ai Youngboy 2 I juss knew you were the best rapper ever to be heard, played, and listen too.
Now that we made it this far i want to say thank you Kentrell Gaulden, I love you so much cuz.
You will forever be listened too

Honestly,I kinda give up when it comes to hoping for a brighter day in Hip Hop,especially when it comes to the artist releasing now. Deep down,I think Hip Hop has just reached its creative peak, abd its not because of the sound reaching its limit, its cause the people involved with Hip Hop today put a limit on it. Theres alot of younger acts, doing alot of things creatively, doesn’t mean their doing em well,it was the same thing back then.

I just appreaciate those times when rappers weren't a product of junk food reality tv and cheap, reactionary videos on social media. Hip Hop was art and rapping was a skill, and the best to ever do it like Jay & Nas have their work stored inside the Library Of Congress next to masterpieces of literature. I understand that todays Hip Hop is more entertainment based then ever before,it doesn't mean I respect it.

Cause y’all come off as complaining just to complain. Y’all ignore music threads where posters are highlighting lesser known artists. And all songs ain’t “Tay Keith” like production. Some niggas post off the wall s*** and others posts traditional rap s*** but you people don’t even engage with it even tho those type of tracks are what y’all claim to want so much. So yeah, it comes off as bad faith when niggas are highlighting the s*** you want and you don’t engage with it.

Lmaooo alright, man. Good luck with the doomed task of trying to persuade everyone on this site and everywhere else that, nah, actually, despite the crescendoing calls for panic about the state of hip hop, it’s actually all good cuz I said it is and people older than me know who Uzi and Gunna are

    Steps:

    1) Accept that hip hop is past its prime commercially and the superstar era is over

    2) Just listen to good rap

Jay, Dre, Diddy, Em, 50, Wayne, Drake, Cube, and a lot of other rappers helped put the nail in the coffin by commodifying hip hop just as much as these dorks who make corny microwave music did, but y'all not ready for that conversation. 50 Cent video games, half a decade of beef, Eminem leaning on speed rapping to remain relevant, 50 inventing the sales wars as we know them, Dre pimping gangsta rap out, etc. It's not new and the present state of rap evolved from the past.

"But I did five mill, I ain't been rapping like Common since"

  • Aug 18, 2023

Only mainstream rap stars that didn't hurt the legitimacy of hip hop were Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, Pac, Ye, and Outkast

Lmao you’re the same user from yesterday that was responding to arguments that I wasn’t making and you’re doing it again. I KNOW (and most ppl on here know too, I would bet) that not all new rappers make that type of music. Our problem is that those are the only guys receiving huge pushes from ppl like you on here and exploitative influencers and personalities on social media lol it’s very clear that those types of rappers are assuming the mantle of the leaders of hip hop and that’s what most of us have a problem with. Idk how that is so hard to understand
