Rubin, Dre, Q-Tip and Jazzy Jeff all had recognizable samples when Diddy was just an Uptown Records employee

They did it well first off and then I feel like there’s a difference in sampling the hook and using it as the hook for your flip
Idk maybe I just don’t like the song and am being unjustly harsh 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Rhyming over a basic sample is the backbone of hip hop

I’m not anti sampling at all
    Sampling is incredible

I’m anti the nostalgia farming and lazy sampling of incredibly popular songs to create some base level of recognition for the listener
    It’s just detrimental to creativity

It’s not “debating history” if you know what your point is. It’s one thing to say that Diddy made a career out of flipping samples into mainstream hits, but it’s a complete other to say he is the genesis of it. Tons folks even other than the one I mentioned had tons of hits based on nostalgic sampling.

A lot of breakout rap hits were literally that lmao

I’m agree with you to a point but saying it’s a “trend” is just wrong

Hip Hop before Diddy used sampled in a creative way barely recognizable way (chopped, slowed, background noise, etc) and a lot of samples were lesser known songs

Jackson 5, Kool and the Gang, O’Jays, Rick James and Queen are “lesser known”? These samples are “barely recognizable”?
