I'm not cheerleading civil war and I agree with those policies

Even if we did all those things, I'm not sure discontent with the theocratic regime would end. We should do every single one of those things. If anything, ending sanctions would probably accelerate the fall of the regime as strongman do better when theres an outside enemy

The protests started with sanctions that drove up fuel prices. That's what they're supposed to do. The US often balances that out by trying to send aid. I think the track record speaks for itself. Nobody here is pro-Ayatollah or whatever.

This is hardly a republican revolution with imperialist fingers on the scale. So not only does the material condition of their society take a backseat to the composition of its government, its transformation is a sham. All the while the people are repressed from the inside and their quality of living is destabilized from abroad. But hey, as long as they meet your ideals. Or fall apart so much the US lose interest and you can focus on China.

The islamic regime has been in charge for decades. The protests are happening because conditions are worsening. There's a sizable distance between popular preference and popular resistance. It takes a lot of suffering to get to the latter. The people of Iran will decide for themselves what changes.

If regime change turns them into accomplices of the west, democratic or not, their suffering will go unreported. This unrest voyeurism will shift to China or Cuba or whatever geopolitical enemy is convenient. It won't be Turkey. It won't be Singapore. It won't be in America where protesters shot with rubber coated bullets and smothered with chemical weapons are demonized on the news.

And the regime has been protested against for years

A lot of the time sanctions dont actually harm autocratic governments

If the sanctions have been in place for this long, it shows some other factor must have come along to make the protests worse

Again, any compassionate person will say the sanctions need lifting. Doesnt mean this entire tradition of protest against the government only exists because if them. Maybe some Iranians simply dont like the ayatollahs

And of course I dont think anyone supports the ayatollah here, that's absurd

They aren't designed to harm "autocratic governments". They are designed to make the people suffer and revolt.

yes, against those government, thus taking them down

the reason i mention autocratic governments specifically, is that we have case study after case study of sanctions inadvertently making strongmen and dictators more popular.

Obviously the US has deployed sanctions on democracies as well, im just showing they are not very effective on countries like iran

I don't understand. What do sanctions have to do with water? Why do you choose to ignore the islamic republic incompetence in managing the country?

The protests for fuel prices was 3 years ago, and the ayatollah killed 1500 protesters directly, imprisoned many and executed one every once in a while to teach people a lesson. You think people and families who lost a loved one forget the injustice?

Follow the events ... have a little bit of historic memory. Did USA make the ayatollah meddle with the so called "elections" in 2008??????Nope, people realized the government is a sham and boycotted the elections this time around just like how they boycotted the MP elections a year before that. The boycott was followed by nation wide strikes and now this is happening. You can believe iranians love their "kind" Imam all you want but that's just you being a fool.

Me ignoring that? Your thread had nothing to do with the actual conditions on the ground until I provided an article talking about them lol.

The efficacy of them is a little less important than the reality of their existence and the punishment they inflict. You sound like a wonk saying torture doesn't actually work due to case studies. The sadism is the point.

You clearly missed the posts about electricity shortages and strikes due to work and living conditions.

Ayatollah doesn't have enough forces to face the protesters. Dumb old man's desperate attempt is to cut the internet. He thinks this way people wont know whats happening and cant organize events. Little does he know taking the toy away from the gen Z and 2000 babies just gonna piss em off a lot more.

Lets see how quick they pull the net
Xi must have already set up the infrastructure for the intranet in Iran.

They probably already got the alternative sites going search the Web with Tajweed search engime. ImamAliWiki.pbuh 😆
