Dawn FM may not be a traditional hip hop album and more of a pop album but Weeknd is generally in the Hip Hop& R&B space. In fact, Dawn FM is less poppy than some of his other projects.

I also literally forgot that it dropped this year until making the video but yes, considering the quality it is amongst the better albums in the rap and hip hop space.

Weeknd literally brought a hip hop twist to R&B. By saying Weeknd could be lumped into the rap category, I'm not saying he's a rapper.

Weeknd has rapped on certain songs, and has co-written rap songs. He is a part of the culture whether you like him or not.

I've also mentioned Bad Bunny who is technically Reggaeton but counts because of the obvious hip hop influences.

Your example literally works against you.
Weeknd is a pop singer who has had a hand in helping create other artist’s rap songs, and who occasionally raps.
Pop songs make up much more of his output than rap, just like pop makes up much more of lil nas’s output than country (especially since he hasn’t made a single real country song)
Therefore, Weeknd is pop, just like lil Nas is pop.
Btw, if you’re trying to build an audience on YouTube, arguing over such little things as people trying to correct you, and then insulting potential fans and their feedback is not a good idea.

Weeknd did not originate as a pop singer....He was an R&B singer before he was ever pop, if you really want to get technical about it.

Of course, Weeknd makes pop songs, he's literally in the top 1% of musicians. For example, Drake is a rapper who makes pop songs by virtue of his reach and audience. But Drake is a rapper first just as Weeknd is an R&B singer first and foremost.

And I'm not the one who started the argument. I literally jumped in here to try not to derail the topic further. And I don't see anywhere where I insulted another poster in this thread. Rather, I had ad hominen attacks of people calling me an idiot and came here to defend myself because y'know I put time and some effort into that video.
