This has been a buzzword for the past couple of years and people often get its definition misconstrued.
In essence it's hypermasculinity framed as the only kind of masculinity and places pressure on men to fit that image of masculine, and any other trait that is seen otherwise is damaging.
Prime examples:
being emotionless yet the only emotion you're allowed to have is anger
seeing women as nothing but objects of desire
everything being a competition between men to see who's the "manliest"
homophobic/sexist/transphobic jokes cause real men put down anything/anyone that isn't a real man or connected to a real man
I used to not believe in it but that's because I never participated in it and if any dude tried that s*** with me I leave em alone and make themselves look like the idiot in the longterm.
yeah its real my g.
niggas gas it tho but its definitely real.
Spit some knxwledge gawd
Of course it’s real
Now, how pervasive it is is another question (I believe it is pervasive)
Toxic Masculinity, losers, neckbeards, they all fit under the same umbrella honestly.
/Men are capable of more and have more leeway, but we got too many old heads of what they think being a man is and judging another man for how well he handles his emotions.
But it’s too easy to confuse someone disagreeing or making a bad remark and jumping to the toxic masculinity insult to shame them, so it goes deeper than that
all the examples op gave pretty much fit at least half of the users of this forum
One problem I have is how often everything that is just simple male behavior (like a handshake or dap) is seen as toxic masculinity.
I don't want to hear a woman's take on what being a man is, because who am I to say what a woman is
Of course its real
All my friends always bully me when im not trying to f*** a girl that im talking too and stuff
Hate that s***

I'm trying to get them in here so we can weed them out
I grew up around strong woman my mom/ sister, also had always girls as friends as a kid, so i dont view girls just as objects you know
Of course its real

They mad you ain’t smashing so they can either game the girl or live vicariously through you.
Of course its real

Hate that s***
yea this is some weirdo s*** but its common around my friends too sadly
like if im not trying to f*** every single girl who seems to show the slightest bit of interest in me that makes me gay
If you’ve ever been around another guy it’s evident that it’s VERY real
simple as this
