i grew up in the hood and pulled myself out so i can relate to it on that level, but there's an underlying but still very prominent theme throughout the project of black pride and liberation and oppression that i've obviously never experienced. i understand it and i saw it every day, especially when we'd all get arrested and i would be treated much different. but, at the end of the day, the importance of the record is, while partially aimed at me so i understand it on a deeper level, is not something that necessarily spoke to me in a way that would make me feel connected to it the way any poc would. just my thoughts.

    jah feel.

do you like kendrick in general or is he not your type of sound? I know some older dudes that think he's criminally overrated because this generation's talent level is watered down

yeah i like kendrick a lot. i have a framed copy of the collector's edition of DAMN vinyl in my studio.

while that's true, he does still have an insane level of talent. it's unfair to compare kendrick to someone like lil baby or gunna, but just because the majority of mainstream hip-hop isn't lyrical, doesn't take away from the fact that he's talented.

100 pro-black empowerment lyrical rappers could enter the ring any day and they'll never have the same presence to the culture that kendrick has. that's his real talent.

with you on that. Super talent. Looking forward to see what direction he goes with the next album.

A true artist not afraid of taking risks and making polarizing art. Lot of the 90s/early 00s can rap and do wordplay with anyone, but didn't go the extra mile to take risks on their projects
