Man how many times do we have to tell yall niggas this. Kendrick doesnt lose when it comes to solo albums.

Tpab is a certified classic bro. theres no discussion to have, cause it is obvious at this point. Idk why yall wanna downplay the importance of this album so much. Its suspect fr

There’s no need to roast, help dude gain the clarity to expand his mind b

Lol Kendrick so good at making albums they gotta debate his own music vs his own music

Sitting on my back porch, fire crackling, listening to Kendrick Lamar’s highly regarded album, To Pimp A Butterfly, while sipping on an Absolute Lime & Cucumber* (fucking horrible) i realized that this album has some high highs (U, Momma, alright, hood politics, these walls), there are a good amount of misses. He had a great thought process into this album but idk if he had the strength to carry that process for 16 songs.

This ranks behind GKMC (classic and genre defining album) and DAMN. for me.

*this was after multiple beers and John Daly mixed drinks. PM me if you need info on these.

This album is very good. Calling it trash is stupid, but calling it a classic is almost as equally as ridiculous.

Whos mans is this to even have an opinion

  • Jun 25, 2020

I agree. I saw someone say it was better than Black Messiah. F***in buggin

I’ve been told multiple times in here that i might not understand its importance because I’m not black. That’s a valid point. I came in speaking purely on music, not its impact.

But even then it wouldnt have its impact without it being musically next level. Those amazing bars would be useless if they were on basic ass beats

Sure its not doing anything sonically groundbreaking but an album doesnt need to be that to be classic. Nigga got literally the best black musicians the city of La Has to offer to create those sounds. Thundercat, flylo, terrance martin etc. its musicianship at an elite level

You say anybody but I’m being told i wouldn’t get it cause I’m white. So which is it

You wouldn't get it because you're a dumbass. Has nothing to do with race.

It's a project steeped in the history of black music yet it gets clowned for being for white people. Don't trust these fools.

I love how niggas make this thread like they thought of this one all on their own and didn’t see the 17 other threads like this this week

  • Jun 25, 2020

    definitely a classic

  • Jun 25, 2020

Don't matter whether you say it's a classic or not at this point, it's cemented.

  • Jun 25, 2020

why does it matter if it's classic or not. this just like all time lists. s*** is completely pointless adds no value to music listening. It only adds value if your ego teeny

op hasnt listened to the dissect podcast breakdown

TPAB has powerful lyrics, great production, introspective poetry. Its both conscious and emotional, leaving an impression that 90% of rap albums these days dont do.

Downplaying its status just because it has a few songs you dont like is just laughable. Just say you dont enjoy the album as much as everybody else

  • Jun 25, 2020

Who can listen this album in its entirely in 2020 lol
Damn is so much better its not fair

GKMC is black teens being ignorant doing nigga s***. Of course you like to see that. Shows no growth

TPAB is the realization of systemic racism and serves as a trampoline for liberation. Of course you don’t like it as much

White people love the fun black s*** that doesn’t fix anything

They hate the serious black s*** that liberates black ppl

    damn

In my opinion (im not white), it doesn't matter if you're white. It's not only an album about black liberation, it's an album about overcoming depression and self-love and love for all the humans around you despite the burdens of society

The song instiutionalized isn't just about black people in prison or trapped in the hood. The chorus is a basic self empowerment message that can resonate with anyone

i would ask if you can't connect with this because you're white why can you connect with anything Lil Baby says or whoever your favorite black rapper is that constantly talks about his life from hood.

I don't think you didn't connect with it because you're white, you didn't connect with it because you didn't like it (which is fine)

i grew up in the hood and pulled myself out so i can relate to it on that level, but there's an underlying but still very prominent theme throughout the project of black pride and liberation and oppression that i've obviously never experienced. i understand it and i saw it every day, especially when we'd all get arrested and i would be treated much different. but, at the end of the day, the importance of the record is, while partially aimed at me so i understand it on a deeper level, is not something that necessarily spoke to me in a way that would make me feel connected to it the way any poc would. just my thoughts.
