thats because dubstep had horrible beats. That was a WOAT era in music.

Early dubstep is the s***. Your idea of dubstep is probably just mainstream brostep s***.

  • May 10, 2021

People who think this is true undermine the power of hearing the human voice saying some catchy s*** on a listener’s ear

That s*** supersedes EVERYTHING, Idc how dope a beat is

just objectively not true, melodies complete the beat without that its not as profound. if this was the case homies would just be ridin round to type beats

Yeah, that Hellcats and Trackhawks song is everywhere right now and there’s nothing really that exceptional or noteworthy about the beat, but it’s serviceable enough and Durk’s delivery and presence over it makes people wanna listen to it

    Good example

most of Durk’s popping songs is popping bc of him or some s*** he said in the song tbh

Same w like DaBaby I feel like his charisma and hooks give him his hits

  • May 10, 2021

If that's the case then Logic would be the biggest rapper dominating playlists streams and the casual hip-hop listeners instead of just caks because his beats are fire.

You can actually create melodies with instrumentals. I think a humans ability to evoke emotion is more important.

    Dat nigga Ace

There’s people on this site that admit they listen to rap for the beats more than the lyrics. Why else do you think every lyrical rapper except kendrick gets trashed but the niggas with trap beats all get praised

Lyrics still matter even in the trap genre. You need a catchy hook and good verses to make a song that people will like. Even a rapper like Playboi Carti who sounds like he's speaking gibberish over a beat has to have some good lyrics and a catchy flow. It's not like people ever listen to instrumental versions of songs.

Early dubstep is definitely the most stylistically dope era and stuff from likes of Noisia is hard too, but some of Flux Pavilion/Skrillex/etc joints from brostep era just slap hard af

Never was a fan of trance/house tho that s*** not filthy enough for my ears

  • May 10, 2021

This take is annoying lol because by this logic then every song would be a hit. To people with this take, every beat today sounds the same, so if they all sound the same how come they aren't all hits

It's not the beats, it's good music lol. The internet has made access to hard ass beats even easier than before. Every beat today is hard.

I like jungle and 90s garage too. S*** like burial too. Trance is kinda dead tbh. But DJs like a&b still kill it and there sets are legendary, trance melodies are the best. Guys like Boris brejcha are bringing that s*** back and blending it with like techno elements. House music is a f***ing vibe bruh it's a constant 1-2 s***s almost hypnotic you can work or dance to it.

This is gonna be a lil nerdy but f*** it

If we look at the concept of anthropomorphism, aka ”the attribution of human characteristics or behavior to a god, animal, or object,” we see that the ‘song’ is simply an anthropmorphized version of classical music composition

The most commonly cited examples of anthropomorphism would be cartoon talking animals like Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. We connect more to those characters than watching a real mouse and a rabbit on a screen because they have human traits

When we take this concept to music composition, eg melody and harmony, songs have an added human element with the voice and lyrics and a more digestible structure than, say, a long sweeping operatic classical piece

The average listener connects more easily to Drake than Mozart because of that added human element. A beat alone is akin to music composition played by instruments alone, but could never be as powerful on a human ear by itself as it is when a musical human voice saying catchy stuff is paired with it

So that’s the long reason this notion is ultimately ridiculous

Lyrics add to the beat obviously but like you said a nigga could speak gibberish over a trap beat and niggas will still like the song. Ive always said the producers were the real talent behind the trap wave

People do listen to instrumentals and go looking for the instrumental version of the song because they liked something about the beat. If they didn’t like the beat we wouldn’t have people doing beat remakes

There are soooo many songs with generic ass beats that popped bc of how catchy the hook is or a quoteable in the song

The writer and the producer and the vocalist are all important and can all make or break a song, obviously there are songs where one is clearly the reason why the song is hot but i dont like to generalize because there arent many songs im actively playing where I only like the beat

    Yup

First it was "all these piano beats are boring" and now it's "producers carry the song"
