You can actually create melodies with instrumentals. I think a humans ability to evoke emotion is more important.

Lyrics still matter even in the trap genre. You need a catchy hook and good verses to make a song that people will like. Even a rapper like Playboi Carti who sounds like he's speaking gibberish over a beat has to have some good lyrics and a catchy flow. It's not like people ever listen to instrumental versions of songs.

Early dubstep is definitely the most stylistically dope era and stuff from likes of Noisia is hard too, but some of Flux Pavilion/Skrillex/etc joints from brostep era just slap hard af

I like jungle and 90s garage too. S*** like burial too. Trance is kinda dead tbh. But DJs like a&b still kill it and there sets are legendary, trance melodies are the best. Guys like Boris brejcha are bringing that s*** back and blending it with like techno elements.
