Go explore shibuya day 1 and you will feel like your on another planet, especially if you don’t travel much. It has gotten more touristy in the past 5 years but it still is crazy

    Osaka will have less tourists

I went in January for a month. just go with the flow - sry dont have much to add in terms of spots to hit but I did travel across lots of cities and parts of Japan. id say lost in translation is accurate and it was my most impactful solo trip. Kyoto is a must.

live in the moment and have fun

Make sure u know exactly how to use the trains and the distance and how long it take to reach a destination. Especially if ur travelling to different parts of japan.

Lots of fantastic advice in this thread. I went this year in January for New Years literally right in time before COVID hit and it was one of the greatest times of my life. Biggest piece of advice I can give is echoing what @Oblivion99 said. Make SURE you know your routes and which train goes where. The train system there is extremely convenient but can be quite complicated

Oh also if you go in Jan, make sure you bundle up. Idk where you’re from, but I’m from Cali and it was cold as a mf. I had to wear 3 thick jackets just to feel normal, not even warm

I went in November. Place was so fire. Google maps was great for routing out with trains and what not. The public transit is so easy to navigate and use, everything is color coded and numbered.

I stayed in Taito City which is pretty quite which I enjoyed. And never felt to far away because the public transit is so good.

There's this fire pancake spot in Taito Cit called Benitsuru. Have to show up early morning and they give you a slip with what time to come back to eat. Delicious

I was with my girl and her fam. Her mom is japanese so she got family there and helped a lot with communication.

Pretty much everywhere had english menus and a lot of people spoke basic english. They were really ramping it up because of the olympics.

Google Translate app is also really good tool too.

Everyone was extremely nice I found, was like almost too nice lol. Aint like that here.

I thought the color coding and numbering was pretty easy to figure out in conjunction with using google maps for transit.
