I would be an idiot to say his fans arent majority white. As a matter of fact, I said that itt. My point is that Tyler is popular and relevant within black spaces

Em rapped about rape lyrics at a waaaay higher consistency than Ja, X, Cam'ron, and BIG (who didn't live long enough to get caught flack for his lyrics).

And yeah. All them niggas + Jay having lyrics about d***ging up girls is bad but in our "fucked up society" is more acceptable than saying you're just gonna rape them.

Plus, Cam'ron lyrics have definitely been the reason some places don't even book him (My alma mater upstate NY (which had Lil B the year before ironically) literally could've booked him and had a overwhelming population of the student body say yes, but the council decided against it due to his lyrics.)

Consistency is irrelevant lmao it's still been prevalent in hip-hop and it didn't really impact any rapper's career at all like that. But if you really wanna talk about this, no rapper was ever criticized like em for his lyrics they didn't try to censor the others like that so saying he got away with it is arguing in bad faith.

Weird ud say certain rape sht is acceptable but go on. First it's rape lyrics now it's well some sht worse to you.

    "some places"

Name the places besides your one alma

If performers want a majority black audience, at some point the accessibility and pricing point has to be addressed.

Hell I know homies that went to Afropunk when they were actually black punk oriented.

Once s*** gets bought out and commodified into the mainstream/white america, it's inevitable the crowd gets paler.

Tyler went from not seeming to care about awards to at and performing at most award shows

I think it's more accurate to say that Tyler went from having a chip on his shoulder and resenting these platforms because he secretly wishes to be accepted by him,

To receiving some accolades early in his career (won best new artist at the MTV Awards).

Realizing that the award wasn't a legitimate a sign of embrace, but rather a means to exploit his cult like celebrity status for views at the time.

Causing him to revert back to not caring, albeit genuinely this time... To where we are currently, where he once again seeks that acceptance and seems to be getting it, but at a point in time where there is little to no value to it at this point (as in it's not seen as much of an accolade at this point, both in general, and relative to his career and accomplishments).

I would say T.I. is from a different generation and was one of the hottest acts in black culture in the 2000s and at one point the face of hip-hop so comparing him to a newer act is weird, but you knew this and thought you could get this off.

Tyler's peak popularity is now so it makes sense to compare him to other acts.

Tyler isn't a star in black space. He isn't popular in black space. An example of a non hood star is drake or kendrick or cole or rocky. Tyler has never been in that world because his core fanbase was edgy white kids then went to artsy white kids and now he wants acceptance. There's literally threads about this on ktt2 when he made comments and I'm sure you were in them defending this nigga and pretending what he said was false but that's not the case. Get over it tyler irrelevant in black culture

    • Comparing Tyler to Baby Durk and Gunna and NBAYB is silly
    • My point is that Tyler is pretty popular in black areas
    • I never said Tyler is the most popular or is a star, I literally just disagree with your claim that his music isn't popular in black spaces.
    • I especially disagree because I am from a black city and seen and talked to a bunch of Tyler fans
    • Most kids under 24 that are black and have listened to Tyler. How could you not?
    • Also would he even get the Culture Influence award if he was irrelevent within the black communtiy like you said?
    • Would a group like BROCKHAMPTON exist without Tyler?
    • Would Earl be where he is now without Tyler?
    • What about Frank?

Or are all of these acts irrelevant to you?

    • The Internet?

In a way, I do feel for Tyler. That being 'too black for the whites and too white for the blacks" dilemma is only something we gotta deal with in this f***ed up country.

Cause white folks don't be caring if their white acts sound "black" they be hip to it. And we ironically give those same white acts "the most" so those white artists that be in the middle end up getting the best of both worlds (justin timberlake, justin beiber, christina aguilera, adele, etc.)

e.g. these UK white R&B acts getting so much love from the black community fam lol

wtf does pretty popular even mean

    That's anecdotal

You have no proof of this

Because they needed to give it to someone. BET awards are meaningless. kendrick wins lyricist of the year without even producing albums

I dont know a thing about brockhampton so ok

    Earl went underground so sure

    Frank didn't need tyler
