B. Dot is the king of lists so I know his spirit is being shattered into pieces watching Tyler rant like that
I'll say this, though. I think there's an importance in knowing the roots of any artform you choose to actively engage in, if only so you can further appreciate what a privilege it is to be a creative but I'll never agree that kids born in 15-20 years ago need to think rappers who were the hot s*** in the 90s and 2000s are the GOATs because that simply won't be the music they grew up on/the music that was most impactful to them.
so tyler doesn't have a stevie wonder record or some s*** like that in his top albums? lol like i get it but i don't. huge generalization. maybe some of those kids just really love this music s*** like he does.
but y'all all seem to agree
You don't understand, he's got memories attached to those songs, Track 15, by the lake, golden summers
He isn't saying you can't appreciate the artists who came before but he makes a point about hip-hop Twitter insisting that the ONLY artists you can like or find influential/impactful are niggas who were making music before you were born. Most of all, he's saying that it's okay to think the niggas you grew up on are your GOATs and it's okay to like what you like, regardless of whether or not other people like it.
