I get what hes saying but most rappers in the top 5 have done things that are objectively difficult/impossible even though art itself is subjective

that preview is so f***ing real I be trying to tell this to ktt (ktt2.com/yall-agree-with-danny-brown-statement-or-nahh-32550185/2#post-43302064) but they can't fathom the answer that most non performative youngins don't gaf about the ob4cls or 36 chambers. they care about yeat, summrs, youngboy, carti, etc.

and that in itself can be performative but that's for another topic

he's not saying you cant do that. all he's saying is that he suspects the same users online having the same current top 3s (drake, cole, kendrick) the same top 10 rappers (3k, pac, biggie, etc) the same top 10 albums are doing it for clout. they don't connect with the music at hand, and by doing that they're being performative.

I remember mentioning online that my top 3 is future, drake and wayne and I enjoy them more than most classic rappers like pac, nas, big, eminem because of my listening experiences with them over other rappers... and guess what, I was clowned on, despite the same mfs listening to future more than pac. and it's funny because I have listened to pac's discog, so it's not like I'm blind hating

Tyler love talking about “Track 7”

We gotta compile a list of track 7s cause he may be on to something and we don’t even realize it lmao

idk I see what he’s saying especially with rap twitter and old heads BUT.. it is a slight contradiction cause dude likes Stevie, Sade, Style Council etc and he wasn’t even thought of when all of them were in their prime. This can be a hasty generalization.

It's not a contradiction jfc why does ktt only want to paint stuff black and white and ignore all nuance

If you read my post you’d see that I don’t think it’s black & white..

I get that but he doesn’t ever acknowledge that a lot of those kids probably just genuinely like that music, its completely normal for teenagers especially to have strong attachment to older music. You said people aren’t acknowledging the nuance but he isn’t really either

And what most people do when listening to Outkast? Taking that Andre 3000 is the only goat-tier rapper from the two, despite (in my opinion) Big Boi being better and having a more impressive solo catalogue. That's performative, my brother.

This entire problem comes down to the individuals who were born or raised with this genre vs those who had to discover it on their own and attach themselves to a certain type of hip hop (and never evolve past that)

  • ANYWAY.. I’m excited for this interview cause Tyler always inspires me and shares cool opinions even if I disagree sometimes

It's not a contradiction at all is the point, the obvious comeback to Tyler's take is saying "but you enjoy old artist, checkmate" when it's completely irrelevant

It is relevant because you don’t know why exactly a young person has x artist in their top 5 lol maybe they were exposed by a sample, documentary, their parents, etc just like HE was. Literally there’s nuance in disagreeing with what he said so what are you even saying?

If people connect heavy to all the old hip hop classics and hate the new s***, cool, but this is targeted at the people doing it for clout. It's not hard to see most young people on hht propping up Wu as the goats, despite having listening to Lil Uzi more, but they won't ever mention an Uzi album being in their top 10 all-time because you lose credibility. It's hypocrisy, it's immaturity and most importantly it's being insecure about your music taste.

  • Jun 7, 2023

He's has a point but also doesn't have a point.

Like u can always go back to albums lol you didnt have to be outside to appreciate the music, especially if it connects with you on a certain level.

He’s been saying this for years way before HHT was a thing, his opinion isn’t as obviously nuanced or fair as you’re making it out to be you just clearly have a bias towards his statement because of your own experience. I get what hes talking about too, but I still think he’s speaking in a very general sense
