Some of you genuinely like and care about music, but these platforms don't care. Music is just another form of content to hold people's attention and drive engagement. The engagement will help drive the bulk of their business which is selling advertising and selling data.

The music itself stopped being the product to be cared about years ago. Your attention and the data you generate is the actual product lol.

Idk man, I think there’s a lot of uncharted territory still combining music and social media. Like think if KTT was also a streaming service and you could comment directly on songs and have discussions on them. Many people would probably use something like that over AM or Spotify if it had the same catalog and quality too.

But combine an existing platform with a massive pre-existing userbase like IG or TikTok and you got unprecedented opportunities to monetize things as a company.

Like instead of artists using IG to promote their new music and linking to AM and Spotify, what if the music was right on IG too? People wouldn’t use two apps if there was one that did both in a successful way.

Most people would still use the main streaming service. I don't think I've ever heard anyone wish that they could listen to an album on Instagram or TikTok. With Reels and TikTok clips, that wouldn't even make much logical sense to be listening to a song while watching a video with audio. The only platform it kinda makes is Twitter but even then, who wants to open Twitter every time they want to play a song?

I mean it wouldn’t look like it does now. If you could have the same exact Spotify or AM UI inside a social media app, there wouldn’t be any difference, except you would also have an added easily accessible social layer.

People are already using other platforms to discuss the music they listen to on streaming services. (Like we are doing here on KTT). What if you could listen to an album and discuss it live with other people listening at the same time on a platform? Just an example but I feel like concepts like that would be popular if done correctly.

    statista.com/outlook/amo/advertising/worldwide#ad-spending

"Ad spending in the Advertising market worldwide is forecasted to reach US$1,077.00bn in 2024." 1077.00bn is 1 trillion lol

They don't need to own the entire advertising market, just need to capture a bit of the market share. Music is so far downstream from where all the money is being spent which is mainly B2B.

If that’s the case, it would have to be Spotify or Apple integrating social media elements into their apps. People would not abandon their huge libraries to jump over to IG just because they can talk about it with their friends while they listen.

And if there was a new streaming service that came out with those capabilities, it would most likely be extremely niche and peak out at like Tidal-levels of relevance. Spotify and Apple Music are both too dominant and too convenient at this point to be overtaken by anything like this unless they integrate the idea into their own platforms

i never was into either party, wasnt really into JBP during its prime

joe is his own brand of corny but at least theres somr some minor self awareness

theres nothing about those two that would compel me to watch longform content of theirs

mal had one story someone animated that was funny but that was a story i heard a million times growing up lol

TL;DR UMG and Meta have some type of deal and its being theorized thats why people aren’t prioritizing dropping on streaming; artists getting paid for how many people use the song on IG and s***

This is kinda crazy. Completely changes the priority of all this s***
