Bong joon-ho films are massively overrated, espescially Memories of Murder which is straight up ass
Memories of murder is good, it's just slow bc it's old. All old movies are like that. Although it's not for everyone.
I live in australia and I think he is funny, most standup is trash though, so it's not like he has a lot of competition.
Especially where I live there is a MASSIVE comedy scene, cacs here love it but its not funny at all.
i respect your opinion though
That's true. i guess im not a fan of his style of comedy. Especially lately he's more of a social commentator than a comic.

Yeah, his new material isn't as great as it used to be. Ai think we can all agree on that
I turn off the departed when Jack says the n word. These white writers need to stop f***ing writing that word into their movies

The movie it's based on, infernal Affairs, is way better, and the character Nicholson is based on is actually good
What do you think of the racist dude in american gangster

So 2000's is old now? I suppose that makes me an ancient artifact? early 20s and i'm already a grandpa

I assume you must hate Quentin Tarantino
I fkn despise Django Unchained, it makes me feel uncomfortable, and I don't like the way tarantino directs the film, it feels exploitative.
Funny, bc I'm lightskin, all the black people i know either don't like or are on the fence about the movie, and all the cacs love it.
But he made Django kill all the white folks though
The people who don't like him seriously don't like him so they'll probably shoot me for saying this but:
if any active director has it in him to make the next 2001 it's Gaspar Noé
And if i wanna go even bigger with the unpopular opinions i'd argue he already has achieved that in 2009

You let your stannery get too much sometimes
You let your stannery get too much sometimes
I know it sounds wild but if you hear me out for a second
2001's biggest achievement in my opinion was that there was such a hypnotic quality to it that no other film really had done around that time. At least not at that level. Such a relaxing pace, and everything from sound design to the visuals combined made 2001 put you in a trance like state
This is the single best quality Gaspar Noé brings to his films. I don't know any films as immersive as Enter The Void & Climax. His longshots with the floating camera are just a brilliant way of getting you in this type of state. Of course, comparing anybody to Kubrick seems to be a sin itself already if i'd listen to these nerds but whatever

It being slow is not a problem for me, it's just a complete mess of a film from start to finish imo. It's based on a real story so it's trying to be serious on some level but then it is also trying to be funny but the humour is all just 3 dudes fighting and screaming lol. Some other stuff i've forgotten about also, only watched it once

I think the ending probably landed better at the time it was released but it was really unsatisfying for me
I've never heard of it being hated much at all, much less *over*hated.
If anything I'd say it's more often just overlooked nowadays — commonly forgotten about in discussions about 2000s cinema, or sometimes even in convos specifically about Soderbergh's work.
But maybe ive just managed to avoid seeing an overabundance of hate 🤷🏻♂️

Old? Memories of Murder released in 2003...
And no, not all (actually) old movies are slow. Not by a longshot.
I don't like The Wire.
I think it's mostly my fault, I put off watching it for a while but internally built up a lot of hype based off clips I'd watch on Youtube and s*** I'd see/hear about it from places like this. I also had a very wrong idea about what the show was about, and once I figured that out I soured on it pretty quickly. I tried to give it another go a few weeks ago now knowing all of that, but still couldn't get through the first season.
Animate super hero movies >>>> live action especially when it comes to DC
100% agreed, I like that the genre has gotten better in Live Action but being animated allows them to do so much more.

I went into the wire knowing very little about it other than the fact that a lot of people considered it the best show ever. it didn't click with me until the beginning of season 2. it was hard for me to be invested in any of the characters because there were so many. ended up loving it tho

It’s Tarantino’s worst film. I think Foxx is great in his work with Mann, but was mediocre at best in it, the story lacked any of the charm Tarantino’s films like Kill Bill (my favorite(s) of his) have, and I haven’t had any desire to rewatch it since its release.
I think Wes Anderson's filmography has gotten worse over time. his latest movies aren't bad, so maybe worse isn't the best word to use. but I much prefer Rushmore, bottle rocket, Darjeeling limited, tenenbaums over his last 5 movies
