somehow yes but you could argue that Beefheart is a Howlin' Wolf clone to a degree. Then again, he has far more variety and just in general a stronger voice with more neurosis, humor etc.. Waits also developed from Beefheart (Lick My Decals Off, Baby still lowkey the first Waits album in his later style) but he definitely has a far more singer/songwritery approach which reflects a lot in his vocals.
