"There is only a market now for fast food streaming slop" is full stop something that I'd bet on Kalshi was uttered at the last Grainge family gathering

    I mean it's just where we're at

it is not a good thing for music lovers

Streaming increased the quality of music

there isn't really a market for great cohesive bodies of work

there is an insanely large market for background music. which is what we're mostly getting.

This is stupid. And not every album has to be “cohesive” to be great

I get that people think it's pretentious but I genuinely believe Vince when he says he's not just overly passionate about music and views it as a job

looking into his come-up, rap was tied to money and safety, I don't think Vince ever had a dream of being famous or making a classic album or anything like that, and tbh I applaud it, because most people at his level aren't that grounded in reality.. they surround themselves with people who gas them up and view them like a god, and it shows in how they carry themselves, it's real easy to become self important when you're famous, he's avoided that because of who he is at his core

You know u can be passionate abt your job

Saying its a job isnt a bad thing

    Hard disagree.

You don’t understand, this is an avante garde deconstruction of the definition of what it means to be a burger, high art genuinely

You know u can be passionate abt your job

Saying its a job isnt a bad thing

All this discussion comes down to people’s own individual perception of jobs and musicians.

Also the common stigma that musicians especially successful ones dont have actual jobs

  • Poolboy Q

it's true sadly but i agree it's stupid

and true albums don't have to be cohesive to be great. but they have to be focused and cared for by the artist.

    media literacy is dead </3

This person in a thread some years ago summed him up perfectly

I think Vince is genuinely funny and smart but also would probably be annoying to talk to
He seems like if you drank water out the tap in front of him he’d be like “niggas drinking tap water but wanna have political opinions…” like what
But if you said you didnt drink tap water he’d be like “nigga too good for tap water but wanna talk hip hop”
Like u cant win with him lmao

reading those 2 examples in his voice

  • notmyfirst

I always feel like he’s posturing when he says this bc in his rap radar interview he was super serious for most of it and really broke down how you cannot make it in music if you don’t make it all of your life and love it on some level

    YEP

Well then why do people love glazing that 7 track album Daytona. It clearly isn’t some sort of bloated 36 track album trying to squeeze every drop of streams

No one is forcing people to drop slop at gunpoint.

There’s no rules. If the music is really classic, then it’ll get streamed.

Cohesive doesnt gotta mean concepts lol, cohesive just means one piece of work transitions to another flawlessly.

if you're a new artist it's almost impossible to gain a huge following right now in this era by making consistent great music. that was the formula from 2008-2015 and we were the real winners

you don't think Daytona is cohesive?

I thought cohesive just meant all these songs have a similar vibe/sound/style.

So what if an album explores many different styles and is jarring but is really good? I like that style of music

Daytona is cohesive I just don’t think cohesiveness has anything to do with streaming and getting peoples attention
