I know vince is kinda? controversial, I think. And these talking points are tired, but figured this deserved a thread.

Could've kept this thread in the drafts, lil bro
While there is a dearth of quality comedies out there, I don't think them being "responsible" is the reason for that. Simply put, comedies just don't perform well in theaters anymore. And the kinda era of comedies that Vince Vaughn came from just don't perform well with younger audiences it seems like anymore. Shorter attention spans have to do with it, along with lazier writing.
If Hollywood would stop gatekeeping and lets some of these YouTube and TikTok comedians make a movie then maybe comedies can be great again.

I don't think the forces of Hollywood are united in stopping these fellas from being in movies. Most of the big online personalities have UTA, CAA type management already
The return on investment just isn't there for most of them
He isn’t saying really anything new it barely even made waves on Twitter. More comedy is dead but at least he isn’t blaming the woke agenda as the reason

A modern American Pie might have a skibidi toilet joke I'm afraid. Those are solid grounds to Kermit
He mentioned this same thing on Hot Ones too. There are a ton of factors but a less discussed on is how well those Raunchy comedies usually did on the DVD market and that's essentially evaporated.
If I got a good stretch in I could probably even reach far enough to correlate the change in Hollywood comedies back to the fallout from the Sony hack
But Glen Powell will probably make one in the next 2 years and everyone will lose s***

Man what the f*** is a "skibidi toilet"?

Gen Z meme humor, do not Google it lmao.

Being in movies is different than being the creative behind it though. Big Jah...Korporate.. Nileseyy Nyles and his crew...etc. There's more than enough talent to make successful and funny comedy. S*** doesn't even have to cost 5 mil.

It's not Hollywood holding them back. If anything they'd love to cash in on the hype too. It's just that the few times we have seen internet personalities get films greenlit half of them don't make it out of development because they don't know what the f*** they're doing and when we have seen finished movies they can't act in them and the writing is s***
These "comedians" can't even film decent specials because no one can sit through an hour of their "jokes". The truth is we're in a drought of great comedians, no one popular and under 30 is funny right now and if they are they have no interest in making a movie. The smart young comedians know comedy movies are a risk and won't take that chance

Nobody I watch has been given a chance it seems
I used to watch Issa Rae when she was only on YouTube..she blew up.
Rcworld1 is currently working on stuff. Others may be eating good and content doing what they're doing since they have full creative control.
People keep saying comedy movies are a risk but nobody is even taking any risk making the comedies...at least with urban s***.
Look at this s***. screenrant.com/2024-comedy-movies
Babes and The American Society of Magical Negroes might be the only "low budget" comedy movies of 2024.
He ain't wrong....not all the way anyway
Movies like thst Jonah hill Eddie Murphy comedy are terrible
But I think the bigger issue is that big budget comedies don't really make money in theaters anymore. So we mostly just get lazy str8 to streamer steamers with little real effort

nah its def true that modern comedies are just bland and too safe now. Comedies that have been marketed as being "edgy" and "offensive" have performed well even if they're not good. Look at the movie Good Boys which even then had no good jokes and everything felt watered down but because of how it was marketed as the first comedy to have balls in decades, it made $111 mil.
Vince Vaughn is 100% right. People would gladly watch comedies again but they're just too safe and responsible nowadays
He isn’t saying really anything new it barely even made waves on Twitter. More comedy is dead but at least he isn’t blaming the woke agenda as the reason
i mean that would be the real reason its dead but people dont wanna admit that
has nothing to do with hiring people of color, but it has everything to do with producers too scared to offend others because everybody is such a p**** nowadays
ah yes gloating about zahler's white panic filmography and using it to segway into defending lazy punch down comedy. what a surprise from yet another hollywood conservative

I honestly can't think of a single period in comedy where comedians relied on being offensive though. Edgy? yes but the comedians who relied on bigotry for laughs were only a handful.

movies like Borat or Tropic Thunder or Anchorman could never get made anymore. They'd be accused of being sexist, racist, or crude. The 80s-2000s as a whole would be far too problematic for this era. Watch those prime era 80s Eddie Murphy comedies and theres no way in hell those would fly today. I agree silent era comedy or Jerry Lewis era comedy is more palatable for todays era but no producer in Hollywood would ever greenlight the creative control to pull that off.
When Borat 2 came out, they had to pivot by turning it into slightly more crude sketches of Daily Show type s***. Wolf of Wall Street was probably the last truly funny comedy of our time and you saw exactly why good comedy can't be made anymore with the criticism of that movie.
