Have never even heard of Good Boys
Well its the last real comedy hit we've had. It's not good for sure but I am just saying the reason it made over a $100m was because it was marketed as having the edge comedy lacks usually
but the edge it had is the edge Deadpool has: toothless insincere bullshit pretending to have balls
i mean that would be the real reason its dead but people dont wanna admit that
has nothing to do with hiring people of color, but it has everything to do with producers too scared to offend others because everybody is such a p**** nowadays
Wokeness killing comedy is an overused talking point with many celebs even saying it so I can’t agree with no one wanting to admit it.
If comedies were still making money like they used to these execs would not care who they offend. Most of them probably say more offensive stuff in their everyday life
I don’t want to write paragraphs at any user so I’ll put the rest of my thoughts in a separate post
My personal opinion on wokeness killing comedy, if you have to rely on offending a group of people for jokes you’re not that funny. It’s like the lowest form of comedy. And that goes both ways with comedians nowadays relying on making fun of “stereotypical white man”
I like stuff like South Park but that doesn’t always translate well into film. It works better as current pop culture satire. My favorite comedic scenes from movies are formed by situational comedy. Set up a scenario and let the jokes come from the characters you’ve placed in that scenario.
Not entirely wrong but no one really wants the raunchy white dude comedies he used to make anymore either

Its killed comedy but not in the way that many celebs think it has. It leans more towards what Vince is saying as so far as people just becoming really pussified lately and not being able to take a joke or take being offended which leads to producers wanting everything to be safe for work now.
And guess what? Nobody wants to watch an edgeless comedy. People today do have a s*** sense of humor though as evidence as them finding the MCU funny

I genuinely think it has more to do with comedies these days just being ass and lacking depth that makes people want to see them. Also doesn't help that they put all the best material in the trailers, so why would anybody even bother watching them

What would you consider to be an edgy comedy? I love Wedding Crashers but it’s basically a romcom and I’m pretty sure they’re even planning a sequel
movies like Borat or Tropic Thunder or Anchorman could never get made anymore. They'd be accused of being sexist, racist, or crude. The 80s-2000s as a whole would be far too problematic for this era. Watch those prime era 80s Eddie Murphy comedies and theres no way in hell those would fly today. I agree silent era comedy or Jerry Lewis era comedy is more palatable for todays era but no producer in Hollywood would ever greenlight the creative control to pull that off.
When Borat 2 came out, they had to pivot by turning it into slightly more crude sketches of Daily Show type s***. Wolf of Wall Street was probably the last truly funny comedy of our time and you saw exactly why good comedy can't be made anymore with the criticism of that movie.
Which sucks because both Borat and Tropic Thunder had great social commentary.
Especially borat. Amazing social commentary
Like it's 2024 and we still doing the "People are too afraid to tell jokes! People can't be offensive!" bullshit. It's still so many shows that do the offensive humor thing that are still great. The truth is, the movies just plain suck. And like I'm sure that's been said already, if you gotta rely on offensive humor, one of the lowest forms of humor, in order to get laughs...chances are you just plain aren't funny.

well yeah. They lack depth because they're too scared to offend. Good comedy has always pushed the envelope and the reality is that cinema doesn't push the envelope anymore because people are too p**** to want that. This is a problem across all genres. That's why we get so much nostalgia based IP bullshit now. Nobody takes risks anymore. We just regurgitate the past.
Remember those old 80s/90s movies you love? Here's Twisters and Top Gun Maverick!
Remember when Chris Evans was the Flaming Torch? Heres Deadpool 3!
Cinema is absolutely devoid of talent or originality now. Comedy is just the obvious sore spot of what happens when you're just obsessed with the past because nobody likes safe comedy.

and it will be overly safe and p**** and no where as good as the original
the first Wedding Crashers had so many absolutely insanely dedicated comedy bits that wouldn't fly today. Even though the entire purpose of the first film was to make fun of toxic sexist men, the movie would be called sexist today by todays soft ass public.
Gotta say I really don't know what's worse. People constantly complaining about "pussification" of comedies, or comedies that desperately try to prove they aren't "soft" by being as edgy as possible and devoid of any actual well written comedy.
The bigger issue with comedy movies imo is how cynical everyone’s become in regards to all media. Online film crowd can never admit to liking anything unless it’s a self serious movie that plays everything straight. If it tries to have any fun it’s called corny for trying.
A lot of people are going into movies with the mindset of “watch this not be as good as ppl say” which in comedy translates to “this is trying to make me laugh. It’s not gonna make me laugh”
I don't think the forces of Hollywood are united in stopping these fellas from being in movies. Most of the big online personalities have UTA, CAA type management already
The return on investment just isn't there for most of them
Cheaper for them to continue making their YouTube/streaming content than to invest millions into them for a movie that may not give you any return. Speaking for the personalities.
There are some YouTube content creators that do make nice scripted content though. RDC, Bigg Jah, Jaé the Fade, there is a few others but I’m forgetting their names atm. But they’ve been making quality scripted content for years now. If this was early or mid 00s, more than a few would’ve gotten some type of tv or movie deal by now.

the brand of comedy nowadays is MCU humor which is essentially humor that says "haha movies and fantasy is dumb right? Who takes any of this seriously?"
It's the perfect comedy for todays generation of visually illiterate insincere piece of s*** public that has lost the ability to know what art is

at the last part
Man there is a scripted comedy content creator on YouTube whose videos I binged during the pandemic. Damn near all I watched. I can’t believe I never subbed, I can’t remember the name now
this is an example of a hollywood "raunchy" comedy. it's about 7 years old now but this kinda s*** was never funny to me
And a more recent example is probably Ricky Stanicky. Terrible movie where John Cena acts circles around a group of comedians
I like what Vince Vaughn said on Hot Ones. About studios pretty much requiring you to have an established IP to make anything. The IP itself is the story vehicle, rather than a group of friends hanging out getting into stupid s*** on their day off work.

The superiority mindset of: “what I like is good, what I don’t like is bad and if you like what I don’t like you have bad taste” is cornier to me than any joke ever made in a MCU movie.
Me disagreeing with your opinion already places me in the “people who don’t know real art” section and no substantial discussion can be had.
I’ve unfortunately been on this site for way too long to see how this plays out. You won’t change your mind, I won’t change mine and we’ll talk in circles.

its got nothing to do with that, but I do sincerely believe that you lack the ability to have any insightful conversation to be able to see past something this black or white. There are plenty of films from the past that I don't like that I still see as having artistic merit. Hell even a film like Blonde from Andrew Dominik is one of the rare films of the last 6-7 years that I felt took actual artistic risks. I didn't like the film but I could see that this wasn't just typical dogshit content like 99.9% of what Hollywood makes now. What you just said is absolutely idiotic and sadly you probably don't even realize that because people like you do have such little understanding of art period and the inability to understand how most of what is made today isn't even art, but refurbished plastic dogshit toy commercials.

well comedy isn't funny simply because its raunchy. There were so many dogshit comedies even in the prime decades that were just raunchy and thought that was all it took to be funny. Huge difference between a film like Good Luck Chuck and Forgetting Sarah Marshall despite both being raunchy as hell.

And that’s where we can leave things
I have little interest in seeking validity from strangers online on my knowledge of film. I like what I like
