What you just said is absolutely idiotic and sadly you probably don't even realize that because people like you do have such little understanding of art period
And that’s where we can leave things
I have little interest in seeking validity from strangers online on my knowledge of film. I like what I like
cool
so stay that way instead of acting holier than thou by acting like everybody who doesn't think like you is just some elitist

I’m open to disagreement. Im not always right. My comment on your elitism was in response to your post that said:
todays generation of visually illiterate insincere piece of s*** public that has lost the ability to know what art is

Which is factually right. There is nothing in there that said that everything I don't like is not art. It is just true that most of what Hollywood makes isnt art today. It's nostalgia based marketing to get idiots into the seats. And most people today have zero understanding of art to fall for it every time.
People are the #1 reason why cinema is dead, don't get it twisted
movies like Borat or Tropic Thunder or Anchorman could never get made anymore. They'd be accused of being sexist, racist, or crude. The 80s-2000s as a whole would be far too problematic for this era. Watch those prime era 80s Eddie Murphy comedies and theres no way in hell those would fly today. I agree silent era comedy or Jerry Lewis era comedy is more palatable for todays era but no producer in Hollywood would ever greenlight the creative control to pull that off.
When Borat 2 came out, they had to pivot by turning it into slightly more crude sketches of Daily Show type s***. Wolf of Wall Street was probably the last truly funny comedy of our time and you saw exactly why good comedy can't be made anymore with the criticism of that movie.
I agree that mainstream comedy has been toned down, that's evident even with the last Jackass but that has more to do with the studios being p****, saying it's solely because of "wokeness" is lame. The studios are scared of anything that will lose them money so it's their fault for comedy being toned down to the point where it feels sanitized. They're too braindead to understand that 2 out of the movies you listed are pure satire and the misogyny in Anchorman also isn't meant to be taken seriously. I'd argue that most audiences who aren't completely braindead get that too that's why Anchorman was a hit even with most liberal critics.
Girls Trip and Bad Trip were pretty raunchy & funny tho. I don't think the average person is as dumb or sensitive as you think and there's definitely still ways to make a funny movie in this climate.

Those 2 movies you listed are just as dogshit to me as something like Baywatch. The only reason they got praised is simply because its women being raunchy and liberal critics have their whole agenda of wanting to see women showcase they can do these things to so they praised it. That's why even something as unfunny as No Hard Feelings got praised.
Audiences are too p**** and I'd say while a good deal of them would get it, theres also a very sizeable amount who will be triggered and cry online and complain, just like they did for Wolf of Wall Street. And thats the blowback producers dont want

eh I don't even love Girls Trip but it's literally as bout as good as the average mainstream raunchy comedy lol it wasn't even liberal white critics that made it a success, it was just big with Black American movie goers. No Hard Feelings would also fit right in with the average mainstream comedy of the 2000's and I'm not even a fan of it.
It's definitely not the audience. I don't think you understand the way Hollywood works or acknowledge that there's other factors at play working against the comedy genre.

it 100% is the audience
Audiences vote with their dollars and they want safe, insincere bullshit IP with lame ass dad jokes

what raunch comedy massively flopped to scare away studios? I don't think you can think of one lol like I said there's other factors at play like superhero films absorbing the genre or the fact that movies with a moderate budget barely exist outside of streaming.
The people who run studios nowadays do not care about film at all and just care about guaranteed hits so they're willing to jump the gun & pull the breaks on anything that could be considered a potential financial risk. That's why you have sanitized comedies & an obsession with iP driven franchises.
During the covid lockdowns the CEOS lost their damn minds and tried to kill the movie theater industry because their obsession with short term profits wouldn't allow them see to the long term ramifications of giving into the streaming industry. Keep in mind that theaters were actually thriving before COVID but even with that they still jumped the gun so it really has nothing to do with our financial choices. They made the decision to condition audiences into only going to theaters to see movies based on IP, they conditioned audiences to not care for the theater experience, they conditioned audiences to wait a month for a movie to be out on streaming etc. we never even got a chance to speak with our dollars.
This argument that somehow audiences now are more sensitive and dumber than the last generation is funny because most gen xers & millennials are pretty f***ing stupid lol I'm saying that as an older millennial

we can blame people running the studios all we want but like even before COVID look at what was making all the money. Dogshit Marvel movies, dogshit remakes, dogshit sequels, lazy reboots, etc.
Audiences vote with their dollars and they want the same bullshit over and over. You acting like we never get anything that takes risks but like whenever we do, from films like Blonde to The Creator to The Empty Man, they all flop with audiences and people just complain and hate on them. The Creator gets called derivative as if all the f***ing bullshit blockbusters that audiences d***ride from Top Gun Maverick to the MCU aren't just as derivative and yet they get praised as good. That's not the people up top to blame. That's brainwashed idiots who can't watch anything without it reminding them of something they liked when they were kids. That's dumbasses who can't comprehend a single original thought anymore. People are the reason why cinema is dead, nobody else.

audiences were conditioned by studios to thinking those were the only films worthy of going to the theater for lol
it's really not hard to understand. Studio heads were always looking for a sure thing and they found that with the cape flicks and sequels/reboots/IP so they pushed original films & movies made on a moderate or small budget to the side. They made a decision early on to make cape flicks & IP a priority thinking it would be a sure thing every single time. Original films didn't instantly become a financial risk when comic book movies first started making waves at the box office. Audiences did not see The Dark Knight, The Avengers or The Force Awakens and suddenly thought woah I'm never going to pay to see an original movie in theaters again lol
so yes most of the blame can be put on the people at the top and the decisions they make are usually irreversible. Every time Hollywood is at risk of dying the studio heads are always to blame.
While there is a dearth of quality comedies out there, I don't think them being "responsible" is the reason for that. Simply put, comedies just don't perform well in theaters anymore. And the kinda era of comedies that Vince Vaughn came from just don't perform well with younger audiences it seems like anymore. Shorter attention spans have to do with it, along with lazier writing.
I think the internet killed comedy in a lot of ways. The fall off of comedy movies happened what, 2012-ish? That's around the rise of Twitter. Any easy layup joke in a movie has been made on the internet a year or two before
Not only that, studios are far less willing to take risks. No way in hell they're green lighting a new idea with a bunch of unknown but talented actors
All the great comedies are fresh ideas

Two movies from last year that I thought had interesting premises for a comedy were No Hard Feelings and Bottoms
Parents hiring a woman to pretend to date their virgin son & lesbians starting a fight club at school to get with cheerleaders
Both sound like something you’d get from 2000s movies. I know there will be varying opinions about their quality but I’m strictly talking about their premises not their execution of them.

not really
movies like The Avengers, Force Awakens, The Dark Knight simply made way more money than any original s*** did. Even massive original films like The Matrix made a fraction of any of those.
Audiences are idiots and naturally drawn to nostalgia, being pandered to, or seeing low IQ s***. That's why we're in the studio system we're in. If films like Dark City or Pans Labyrinth or Children of Men made a billion dollars, the people up top would have very different priorities for the kind of films to make.

That's fair yah new ideas are being put out there. Didn't watch either of those but definitely saw a lot of marketing for Bottoms

exactly my guy. They made cape flicks and IP a priority after seeing the box office results. Cape flicks and IP were seen as a sure thing so they decided to put all their money into those projects & condition audiences into only going to the theater for those films. you proved my point, thank you. Were going in circles now. Original movies were still successful after TDK and The Avengers were massive box office hits, they just weren't a sure thing. They literally never were.
Vince Vaughn Says ‘Responsible’ Comedies Are a ‘Snoozefest’: Hollywood Should ‘Let Young People Go Make Movies and Leave Them Alone’

I know vince is kinda? controversial, I think. And these talking points are tired, but figured this deserved a thread.
he leans Republican but usually keeps it to himself lol not surprised by his take on this but at the same time the movie about working at Google didn't need a 10 minute strip club detour either

That proves my point. If people weren't f***ing dumbasses, they'd watch movies like The Avengers or Captain America and say "this is just the same bullshit ive seen 50000x times f*** this" but instead they said "hahahaha me like dad jokes. Me like CGI and capes and braindead plot. More movies please!" and just kept paying to watch them rather than appreciate the risks and freshness of original films or even just actual artistry. Nobody is more to blame than people for why cinema died. And its funny because alot of the internet liked those movies and kept getting mad when people rightfully said they were killing cinema.
thing is even when the rare original film was a big hit, it still only made a fraction of a captain america or toy story movie. People only pay to watch s*** thats safe and nostalgic for them. They're absolute f***ing idiots. But atleast in the past before studios figured that out fully we got some artistry.
It's not Hollywood holding them back. If anything they'd love to cash in on the hype too. It's just that the few times we have seen internet personalities get films greenlit half of them don't make it out of development because they don't know what the f*** they're doing and when we have seen finished movies they can't act in them and the writing is s***
These "comedians" can't even film decent specials because no one can sit through an hour of their "jokes". The truth is we're in a drought of great comedians, no one popular and under 30 is funny right now and if they are they have no interest in making a movie. The smart young comedians know comedy movies are a risk and won't take that chance
Nah it feels like theres more comedians than ever, the problem feels like a lack of funding
to be honest it seems to me at least his issue is hollywood studios meddling in young creators work which is why we are getting s*** comedy movies which is a commendable take in my eyes
he leans Republican but usually keeps it to himself lol not surprised by his take on this but at the same time the movie about working at Google didn't need a 10 minute strip club detour either
they don’t make ‘em like this anymore
notice how its always the people who were in Fred Claus type movies who have this opinion?
If Hollywood would stop gatekeeping and lets some of these YouTube and TikTok comedians make a movie then maybe comedies can be great again.
They already do
