Smarter politicians always knew this coming. A global pandemic was eventually inevitable it was a matter of when. The scientific community had been warning them for years. We're letting people like Trump off the hook if we act like a pandemic wasn't always seen as a risk. Just cos it wasn't a top media narrative, it was brought up to them again and again.

For example, in the UK it was higher than terrorism as the number one threat to the UK for most of the decade. Our leaders reacted to this by dismantling pandemic planning and ignoring when their tests showed they'd fail. That is a government failure, both in the US and the UK.

public health response is always a political issue. The outbreak isn't political but how you respond to it and what systems you have in place is political. like do you have free healthcare, is that healthcare funded, have you invested in PPE, how are you sending out public health messages, do you want to go into lockdown etc.
