I feel like travis was the last universally popular artist
like atroworld is the last album whose release was a big pop culture moment (not just rap like war or ea) and everyone went to the concerts after.
all brands wanted to work with him s*** he even hosted that 2020 graduation thing
can't think of a rapper that universally popping since drake released views

not just rap like war? whats that lol

platinum in a year is not impressive lol. Whats poppin is 6x platinum. 600k out of that million is whats poppin.

Also lots of artists go platinum in a year especially if they have a big hit. Tyga album Legendary did that.

Meg could be it but her albums have no lasting power

    Internet puts a scope on everything;

artists get made then betrayed by the internet

This is delusion. Of the younger guys (2013/2014 - present) he was definitely top 3 most popular

Off the top of my head, artists whose next releases will completely dominate culture for their drop week at the absolute least:

    • Kendrick
    • Rihanna
    • Frank
    • Beyoncé
    • Jay Z
    • Drake (fan or not, he’s still got a vice grip on the scene)
    • SZA (debatable, but I’d argue so after the performance of her last few singles)

Hell if he plays his cards right Lil Nas X could have a major impact as well

Of all things you pick that, and of all times to talk about the end of monoculture you pick this week

Yea if you move the goal posts.

I think he was talking when astroworld dropped. Even though he was 3rd most popular after Drake & Kendrick.

travis was extremely popular to lil kids bro. he was far from universally popular

    This.

I remember most relatives in my family over 35 were just now finding out who Travis Scott was when the tragedy happened.

And my fam is Black too.
