    This.

I remember most relatives in my family over 35 were just now finding out who Travis Scott was when the tragedy happened.

And my fam is Black too.

Do they still actively listen to new music? I know a lot of older people after a certain age just listen to stuff from when they were younger.

Off the top of my head, artists whose next releases will completely dominate culture for their drop week at the absolute least:

    • Kendrick
    • Rihanna
    • Frank
    • Beyoncé
    • Jay Z
    • Drake (fan or not, he’s still got a vice grip on the scene)
    • SZA (debatable, but I’d argue so after the performance of her last few singles)

Hell if he plays his cards right Lil Nas X could have a major impact as well

Sometimes if the song is catchy.

I have aunts who listen to "God's Plan" and "Bodak Yellow" and they know who Drake and Cardi B is.

I feel like Travis is just one of the people who's music is bigger than him.

People may have heard Sicko Mode or Antidote without necessarily associating it with Travis.

I think Trab's fandom was generally more youthful than the Big 3 and some other rappers to begin with.

This would imply that if you don't listen to Travis Scott you might not get a reference that literally everybody in a diverse room knows but you.

    The Beatles
    The Office
    Game of Thrones
    Michael Jackson
    Harry Potter
    Travis Scott

  • Apr 1, 2022

Travis albums were not a big moment man huh

universally popular is drake territory. I wouldn't even say jay-z is universally popular

travis was never popular with all demographics and age groups like that

  • le epic poster xD

at the time astroworld came out travis was closer to drake-level universal popularity than any other artist. more than kanye, more than kendrick.

idk why this site always plays down how big travis is, or at least was at the time. like there's a good chance he never reaches that height again now but practically every song on there was a hit. ppls grandparents were seeing him in mcdonalds ads. kids were playing as him in fortnite. everything he did spawned countless memes. sicko mode was the first rap song in history to spend 30 weeks in the top ten. he was everywhere and everyone was talking about him why are ppl itt pretending like he wasn't?

Hate to be that guy but one could argue that Sicko Mode was sorta riding Drake's Scorpion buzz.

Travis was huge no doubt but I feel Cardi was more well known to the masses then him and Bodak Yellow was just as memorable as Sicko Mode.

But if we're strictly talking young people 25 and below, I'd say Travis and XXX both had a very strong pull and fanbase for sure.

Everyone’s family is different. My mom doesn’t listen to any contemporary or new music at all, nor the radio, but she’s known exactly who Travis Scott is way before the incident happened

Out at Jay-Z not being universally popular

Yeah sure one of the three or five most recognizable and well known rappers of all time isn’t universally popular

Only on KTT do people say absurd things like this with a straight face

    True.

Hell, my mom told me that she thought Eminem was a boy band from the early 2000's like the Backstreet Boys when we were watching the Superbowl this year lmao.

But I do think Travis's music is generally bigger than him.

That man had one of the biggest albums post-2016 and collabed with virtually every globally well known brand you could think of and KTT thinks he’s not universally popular

You really think jay z is popular with gen z and younger?

Lmao only out of touch bozos can say something like that. The biggest clout jay z has with gen z is the thought of having dinner with him

You realize Jay Z has been globally known for 20 years now right?

Gen Z isn’t bumping The Beatles and Stevie Wonder and Prince daily, you making the argument they’re not universally popular either?

He’s a legacy act at this point, idk why you’re judging him based on how well people 16 and under know and/or like him
