Drake is fundamentally not an artist, He does not express himself, he expresses what he views as popular or what is current in his lyrics, song structure and vibe. Take care was his best album and it's The Weeknd's illegimate child. even So far gone and before is a copy of 808s and heartbreak
Drake's talent for music is in his business, showmanship and performative arts, He knows how to work in the system because he was a child actor, groomed into an industry. That is fine, curation is a field of work and specialized interest.
It is just laughable to compare him to the Kendricks,Kanye's,Basquiat's s*** even Jay Z.
He is more akin to a very intelligent sociopathic DJ Khaled. Just instead of yelling DJ Khalleeeed. He raps one of his verses of the backs of whatever sound he thinks will be popular

The Weeknd's child because of 3 songs and a interlude

The revisionist history on both drake and Kanye is crazy. Drake was not as culturally important or thought of as some cool rapper until about 2017-2018. If you were around in those early years--Drake was roasted all the time.

"Drake the type.." memes were all over the place. People made fun of his white rapping voice. His singing songs were 10x more popular than any rap songs he put out. Stupid f***ing quotes would get pasted onto a Drake photo and go viral just cause people believed he said these things around IYRT + Meek beef things started to flip and then on Scorpion he truly shed those early narratives.

On the other hand--Kanye was so hot he could sell a piece of plastic back then and it would become the hottest accessory lol I always thought the Adidas clothes/shoes were ugly but the people LOVED everything he put out lol not even mentioning the music. He had a ton of incidents but was bullet proof--until the MAGA hat in 2018. I'd say 2018 was officially the year they switched places and Kanye became the one to make fun of while Drake fully captured the youth/culture

    These are all lies

Drake had the biggest buzz of any unsigned rapper since 50 cent and was immediately recognized as the leader of the new generation wtf are we talking about

The people defending Yeezus being a culturally accepted time for Ye have to either be white or just wasn’t there lmaoo the hood/streets were not rocking with Yeezus like that at all. It wasn’t until recent that the album has been universally praised.

Nobody is talking about the artistic value but Ye as a whole was kind of put on the back burner.

Mfs in REAL LIFE were even saying Born Sinner was better than Yeezus back then. I was one of the few people singing the album’s praises in my circles.

Yeezus era literally birthed the “I miss the old Kanye talks”

man none of what you said is necessarily wrong... until you realize that its divisiveness and singular creative vision were the main factors that made it impactful... everyone remembers how this s*** alienated a lot of people at first but ppl were talking about this album like crazy, it's impossible to argue that it was a low point culturally when we now see how massive that project was... like the retrospective praise didn't come overnight, it grew because a dedicated base of fans and artists were day 1 supporters of the vision keeping the convo alive and shaping how the album was eventually seen

calling yeezus a cultural low point is like calling 808s & heartbreak a cultural low point when we know how significant that album actually was and how quickly artists started drawing inspiration from it, who cares what some casuals thought about the project back then, that's really only one side of the story

staying power of yeezus is immense, even that b**** made p4k list included yeezus as the only ye entry lmao, the album is and was huge

like this isn't a case of people suddenly going like "hey, remember that trash ass kanye album from back in the day? just relistened, turns out that s*** was actually dope" the convo around it never disappeared, it's been a constant presence and a major force in music discussions to this day

But what we mean by low point was that it was the start of the streets turning on Ye. His newer mursick after that doubted a lot of people unfortunately. That’s all we’re really saying. I remember this was when “Ye fell off”started being spoken about which is crazy for that time too

I don’t think anybody believes Yeezus was “culturally accepted” or universally acclaimed at the time. Yeezus did however create some huge cultural moments for Ye and that’s undeniable.

The lady Gaga Polaroid clip gotta be one of the most famous interview clips of all time

Oh easily but he was known for the antics and not the art and that’s what we’re saying too. Also at the time it wasn’t a big meme like that. People thought THAT interview was him being “crazy”
