you're talking to a Pac stan. That's why I can say that lol, that's not a diss.

He wasn't a lyricist in the technical sense. He was always a poet.

    Big difference.

    fam don't act obtuse lol.

He had his moments like If I Die 2nite, but c'mon Hennessy and enemies has become a trope because of how often he used it.

Pac was never the punchline, metaphor, lyrical miracle type of rapper. He was a poet where he would just be vivid and paint a picture for you. That was always why the Biggie/Pac beef was so weird cause they're two different type of rappers. Biggie as a rapper had the better flow and punchlines.

Pac could just give it to you straight and hella descriptive.

Only a poet could write one of the greatest verses of all time ("I aint Mad At Cha 3rd verse" on the radio version.)

We agree. That's why I'm saying. He literally started as a poet lol.

  • May 16, 2021

Wayno not a Tupac fan so take that as you will. But if we just talking “technical rap proficiency” then I’m inclined to agree.

    well said

but i don't get why we discount the more straight forward approach

you don't need to have metaphors and punchlines to be a lyricist imo

it's like saying a comedian isn't funny if he doesn't use literal punchlines

I don't think anyone's discounting it. We're just acknowledging that that is a fact, he's technically not as proficient a rapper as others.

But I guess we "discount" it in general because well like I said earlier, if you just wanna be straight forward then "just do poetry cause we only wanna hear bars." (I'm not saying this is how I view the s***.)

    i just feel like

when you hear the word "lyricism"

    or "technical rapper"

    it means backpack s***

    which i get

but i don't think that should be the definition

are we gonna say wayne is a better rapper than Scarface too?

i guess what i'm saying is

bars aren't the only factor in technical skill

    imo

    technically....yeah.

But Scarface just like Pac know how to paint pictures.

But the thing about Lil Wayne that makes him exceptional is he could do both. Pray To The Lord is a beautiful song.
