I think part of it really is this overexposure to the sheer complexity and scale of modern industrial civilization, mediated by things like the internet

in the past, the world was probably more barbaric but you were enclosed within your sphere of influence (usually your local community), where you could actually act on the terrible things you were exposed to

now, we're reminded everyday of the problems that are often beyond the reach of the average person, both because of geographic barriers and because of the sheer magnitude. the best antidote seems to be a "return" to the dynamics of the past, meaning organizing and taking action within your local community

edit: and to add, even in the previous century there were examples of large problems being subject to social backlash and widespread knowledge (i.e. the reaction to "the jungle" by upton sinclair), but the rate of exposure was much slower and easier to adapt/respond to

    this too

    overexposure

take a health break if you need to, if the internet s*** get too much

money and power rules the world and they don't care about you all. The world doesn't revolve around you!

Another cause of western dissatisfaction is people abandoning values and morals completely

traditional values and morals aren’t real imo

most people use them to hide their true selves behind it and do horrible things

the only things that matter is the environment and people around you

    Wym by "traditional" man?

    like religious/“old-world” values

while there is good positive teachings taught to be better in your community, that comes from the people/environment and yourself imo

is it moral to colonize the world or killing people because they don’t believe in the god you believe in?

you can use and people have used religious scriptures and teachings to justify a lot of bad things

my issue with these types of “just appreciate it” thoughts is that why can’t we make the world better than now, we made it better before

you think we can live in this s*** forever? f*** that i want to make it better for now and the new generations and it goes on

if we stayed where people wanted us to, and didn’t progress, there would still be child labor and slavery/no civil rights in america

You could apply that to anything you’ve said ITT about the morality of s***work, your morals are dependent on your environment and the cultural zeitgeist at the time. That is why human morals are completely arbitrary.

Yeah it’s crazy. Maybe it has to be that way. Isn’t there some stuff in the Bible that we will become really evil before the end or something? But yeah hope this a part of something good in the end

Related to this: Evangelical christians believe that jesus will return when the end is near. It's why they've infiltrated places of power and are deliberately sabotaging society.

exactly, which is what bothers me more than anything. we’ve should’ve been progressed past this being this rich and developed nation that we are. instead, we’ve made little progress in terms of that.

poor people are very drawn to the ideas of capitalism

    No they arent lol

  • Dec 21, 2020

    It is capitalism.

  • I mean 2000 years ago people would sit in an arena and pay to watch people kill each other and drink their blood.

And those public executions and witch burnings in medievil times

Watching this was like a tv series for normal folks
