🤓🤓 no the Ozma that later did the Tetris cover song that was used in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, kinda of a cool success story for them being copycats weezer to get to that and then working with weezer
💿 ALBUM OF THE DAY 💿
Zerwee, Pt. 2.!https://youtu.be/ZcbFzWnpo3A(screenshot of the youtube description box)
Billy Cobb just dropped Zerwee part 2! for those who don’t know Billy is just a young dyi SoundCloud nobody musician who’s a big fan of weezer, and while waiting for the black album he released last year an ep titled Zerwee consisting of 4 songs in homage to weezer early, golden days sound:
Zerwee!https://youtu.be/nYWWuRSnZ5M(screenshot of the youtube description box)
It’s about to reach 500k views on youtube so needless to say it paid off! i love She Doesn’t Love Me, it’s very reminiscent of Waiting On You for the verses vocal melodies no?
and now, in amongst the confusion of the Van Weezer era we have a whole new full album of sequel to it to make up for it! im about to listen
@Danny @Lamont @cotton_dockers @RVI @deepsleep @Womanpuncher69 @Key1256 @MrIndigo96
giving me late 90's/ early 2000's rock vibes.
@Ithaka aii i listened to the green album again i liked it better this time maybe cuz i was in better mood today than yesterday smiles being a new stand out to me which i didn’t notice yesterday
I didn’t like Maladroit it felt like one big slog to finish i couldn’t really tell the songs apart and it sounded too safe, like they went for a more generic rock sound, this is my least fav weezer album so far
Make Believe was an album i needed from Maladroit songs where i can tell songs differ from each other it had a strong start other than the second track and a great ending too however i didn’t really enjoy the middle tracks as much, i still found the album to be good and enjoyable.
Ranking so far
Blue = Pinkerton >Green = Make Believe > Maladroit

Smile is the best of the Green album next to O Girlfriend! they’re like my both keepers, outside of the first half with all the singles which i keep, doesn’t the album feel like that? somehow first half stands out from each other than second is very similarish, yet two of the best songs are on it lol
your take on Maladroit is interesting, it might be their more divisive album in their catalogue, lots love it (i think it’s @grimes fav?) some don’t, i don’t hate it im somewhere in the middle!
while i grown to really enjoy Green and take it easy as it come (again an album that isn’t serious, on the opposite of Pinkerton which is incredibly dramatic for all the right reasons) Maladroit has some songs that puts me off, Possibilities has to be in my bottom ranking of their songs lol
at first had a hard time with American Gigolo (because how anti melodic the verses are, almost numetal ish) i like it now it’s different and the chorus comes at good contrast
but yeah i think Death & Destruction is one i save, not fan of the corny ending “i-l-o-vee-you” but, and i know this sound crazy but as ive mentioned it in my song of the day post for it the solo is one of my all time fav Rivers guitar solo, it sounds funny because he masters such great shredding stuff and there’s so many great ones, but something about the attack and the big fuzz sound on this one, like it’s bleeding! yet so romantic, i love it
i think Slaves is one to go back to, they out the blue replayed it for a Spotify acoustic sessions in promo of the White album and it makes it justice:
i believe iirc this is the song that was written about the fans.. oh man that era was crazy, did you know some fan named the album? Rivers was posting a lot on his message board and sending demos getting feedbacks from users! the reason the album sounds the way it does is that lot of fans said they weren’t being rock anymore, that Green was too poppy and cute so there you go
my favorite next to Death & Destruction is Brundt Jamb m, what a unique standout groove no? despite the chorus a little cop out arena rock, the verses just feels so right
Dope Nose is fun live altho i don’t go back to it
but December while the final version is a bit on steroids i still think is a real nice classic weezer song

ur really a human wiki for weezer i respect it
on the numetalish vibes you get on American gigaloo is the same type of vibes i got from the whole album it sounded to me a mix of generic grunge/nu metal rock on my first and only listen so far, and i don’t think they pulled that sound off interestingly enough imo i’ll listen to it again and probably pay attention more to the album next time i listen to it

well it’s always a blast to exchange back and forth with someone diving through their catalogue, i one you all that long post for you doing that!
as for Make Believe btw it was definitely made in reaction to Maladroit (like Mala was to Green, Green to Pinkerton, the story goes on..) i personally out it at the bottom bc altho it is refreshing after Maladroit on the overall spectrum i find it the most uncreative one, we talked about it itt but Rivers comes off tired to me vocally and musically his songs comes off like he trying to be mellow but not with passion, kinda like if Green went emo.. odd, still good standouts as always! in fact This Is Such A Pity is Julian Casablancas fav song
the album could’ve been much more tho, there’s some great left out songs on these sessions! this one is actually one of my favorite weezer song lol give it a shot trust me:

!https://youtu.be/VU1jepcv4XEdamn organ player sounded beautiful would have been great on the album, but yeah i get the uncreative shot you threw at it when i was done i felt it was a less interesting moon shaped pool but moon shaped pool was released in 2016 so of course it didn’t influence Make Believe. i grew up on emo/punk music which i guess made me more receptive to Make Believe rather than Maladroit. but after thinking of it i agree on it not being very creative which i would change my ranking on putting this under green rather as equal

isn’t a sweet song? almost too good for Make Believe, here’s to hope Rivers still do something with that song (it sounds crazy because how old the song is by now but Rivers resurrected songs from the Green era on the last albums so nothing’s impossible)
haha that’s cool you mention Radiohead, they’re covered them a few times and the second new album coming after the next one (yeah they got two albums ready to go) is titled Ok Human 😉
i get where you coming from, kinda the same here! and yeah i don’t want to influence any rankings too much i love when people got their own takes but yeah Rivers always goes for something new and Make Believe just doesn’t hit that, you know? feels like he’s sitting down recording the album.. which is what in hindsight makes me appreciate Green more maybe
but don’t worry because the Red album up next is the polar opposite of Make Believe! their most creative, barely any songs about girls, every band members contributes a song and song their own lead vocals on it, red is the democratic one, it opens room for some cringy moments but it pays off for outstanding beautiful and super inspired highs! make sure to check the deluxe (it’s not a whole second cd unlike blue or pink) as it has some of its best songs (actually they were meant to be the original album but judged too mellow by the label who made them record some extra more upbeat stuff that lands on the standard album)

Mikey, do you listen to any music to get pumped up for a show?
Mikey Way (MCR bassist): Frank Iero (MCR guitarist) usually has some awesome mix going backstage. I also used to listen to a lot of Weezer before we went on.
I love Pinkerton. I went to that Pinkerton album show, where Weezer played the whole thing — it was amazing! They did “The Blue Album” the night before but unfortunately I couldn’t make it.
This for @grimes and @figarooooo

💃 SONG OF THE DAY 💃
”Ten years from now I'll still remember every word..”
My love for Pacific Daydream aside, i think this is a Cuomo gem and a song everyone should check out even if they skipped the album or overlooked it because it’s too “pop”, you should give it a shot @cotton_dockers ! this is a resurrected song from the Green era, here’s bellow the original demo:
obviously the og has the green formula treatment and gimmick all over it: very power pop, guitar solo that copies the verse melody,etc.. but it’s one of the songs i always thought Rivers should’ve finished, and thankfully he did, in the best way possible: a brand new fresh chorus, took out the overplayed power pop groove and gave it a sixties dress with the percussion very reminiscent of The Zombies “Time Of The Season” and also added a glorious intense bridge that takes the whole song to another level at the end of the day.
live premiere of the song, shout out @Danny

!https://youtu.be/iW8RjsUBJtoI’ll check it out! I think I remember this song title from back in the day. Too many good songs got recorded and discarded in the Green/Maladroit era. Whittling those albums down to 10 and 13 songs had to take forever.
