exactly my reaction, i think he was put off by the switch in the chords and melody but that makes it a greater song and not just a dumbed down deja vu progression

i know right? it’s the best contrast, such a rich song, i would go and say it’s maybe the most important song of the whole 90s

but same, i know i already posted earlier too but i view it differently ever since Rivers started it’s not literally about him chasing a girl but it’s about him and his artistic process, his muse, i love that idea

Blue lyrics overall always hits close to home anyway, i mean who didn’t relate to In The Garage when you’re an insecure kid picking up a guitar for the first time?

idk about "most important" lol but would definitely be among my top 20ish favorites of decade. yeah i dont really think of it or identify with it because of specifically thinking about a girl/guy like that its more just the idea of "only in dreams"... its tragic man some things really are only in dreams

fr tho god bless Ric Ocasek on that, what a legacy, from The Cars to producing weezer when they were no ones and insisting to put Buddy Holly on it! he is also responsible for Island In The Sun in how he told Rivers to keep that one (through many other demos Rivers had and sent on which Ric gave back insightful criticism) so they could work on it together on the Green album that he produced, and look how that turned out!

kinda telling of Rivers inspirations too tho dude was so into his bag he had gems stacked that even something like Buddy Holly didn’t impress him himself or didn’t feel like he had to hold onto, or Island In The Sun too in some degree as he didn’t think much of it at first i guess?

but i respect your take tho real talk your own “essential” is more important, valuable and relevant than what is considered “the best achievement” technically speaking

funny is that he had to be convinced for the video too! Spike Jonze was only up and coming, a start of a great collaboration

i just found out about this video, i know it’s about the one he did for Undone but it’s really cool, some stuff i never heard before like how he says Rivers insisted he didn’t want anything pretentious (ok that’s my goat)

In honor of Charli XCX amazing new album, let’s take it back to her criminally underrated pop gem debut album “Sucker” released in 2014 with this highlight “Hanging Around” written mainly by Rivers Cuomo.

I recall before doing this album she wanted to drop something more Ramones infused so maybe this is how they linked? I don’t know, surely they clicked on their love for Japan tho!

Anyway what I know is that Rivers said how she wanted a Beverly Hills type song and as you listen to this, it’s very easy to tell he gave her what she wanted, same beat, same guitar attack, Joan Jett style.

You can actually hear Rivers in the song as he’s the one doing the male harmonies you hear.

Billy Cobb just dropped Zerwee part 2! for those who don’t know Billy is just a young dyi SoundCloud nobody musician who’s a big fan of weezer, and while waiting for the black album he released last year an ep titled Zerwee consisting of 4 songs in homage to weezer early, golden days sound:

It’s about to reach 500k views on youtube so needless to say it paid off! i love She Doesn’t Love Me, it’s very reminiscent of Waiting On You for the verses vocal melodies no?

and now, in amongst the confusion of the Van Weezer era we have a whole new full album of sequel to it to make up for it! im about to listen
