Rivers cuomo borrowed the hook phrase "longtime sunshine upon me" from a song his parents used to sing to him and his brother.

Growing up, living in a farm house, their bedtime was 7 or 8pm despite the sun still being up.

His hippie parents would sing "May the Longtime Sun Shine Upon You." to help him and his brother fall asleep.
