13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - 10/10
Probably one of the best written games I ever played? They threw every sci-fi trope in existence into the story, and over the course of its 30 hour runtime they unveiled revelation after revelation - yet it never ended up feeling discombobulated. Would 11/10 this if every battle was as stressful as the final one.
im playing this now, about 2/3 done, and this s*** is dope af. its been so long since ive gone into a story knowing literally nothing about it and just be able to soak in all the plot twists this game throws at you, but like you said it somehow still manages to stay coherent, its magnificent
I hope whoever designed Uncharted 2 train boss was fired and never got a job in the gaming industry again

Control - 2/10
It's a shame how much this game wasted its concept, because it had such an intrigueing world.
Despite the brutalist architecture, a style so commonly associated with authoritarianism, of the Bureau of Control building that the game takes place in, humanity has actually lost all control of the situation.
The maze-like, constantly shifting structure of the bureau; the ever-present chanting of the supernaturally-possessed employees; and the vast array of reality-bending supernatural objects go a long way in creating an uncomfortable, unfamiliar atmosphere - yet the gameplay was nothing more than that of a standard third-person shooter.
I could perhaps be a little more forgiving if there was anything that was remotely interesting, but it felt like they set out to make the most boring game possible. Character upgrades boil down to stuff like increasing HP, mana, damage, etc. The vast majority of enemies are your standard humans with guns. Your main sources of damage are a gun and telekinesis which, lets be real, is essentially a gun.
Ashtray Maze sequence was great though. Give me more of those sequences where they actually made good use of the world they created and I probably bump this up two points. Or even better, maybe they should have just made a f***ing puzzle game where you have to figure out how to conduct obscure rituals to get all the supernatural objects back under control.
Bioshock 2
Nowhere near the masterpiece that the first game is but its fun in its own right

I had my issues with Control, but damn a 2/10?
It’s sad that the most interesting thing about control isn’t the plot itself or the gameplay, it’s the SCPs themselves. The unexplained and mysterious subjects sold me the game and I wish it was focused on those instead.

I've kinda gotten to the point where if a game doesn't have anything interesting I'll just dumpster it unless the execution is really good. Like I'd rather play an unpolished, ambitious game than a polished, unambitious game.
been playing kirby and the forgotten land heavy this weekend and it's gotten more fun with the upgraded abilities.
been running Metal Gear 5
fun game

daaamn, i went into this thread asking myself, "i wonder if anyone is talking about 13 sentinels?" and here we are.
im about 25 hours in. absolutely fantastic.
my only critique is that i REALLY have to be in the right mood to play this game. it's difficult to just pick-up-and-play because it's so god damn immersive.
i also keep getting distracted by my second SMT V playthrough (another brilliant game)
been running thru the entire megaman x series recently. got the platinum for the first collection and currently working thru the second one
