trying to drop online games since they're starting to get stale for me so ive been making an effort to go thru my backlog and start playing single player games. started with shadow warrior (2013)

ideally a game like this would appeal to me. its a remake of a boomer shooter (big fan of boomer shooters), multiple weapons, slicing niggas up with a sword, etc and it was fun for the first couple levels but, as it went on, it was starting to get stale for me. the gunplay is alright but it felt kinda stiff? like i feel like ive played fps from that year that felt way smoother than this. it reminds me of DOOM 2016's gunplay but not nearly as polished as that. the corny dialogue/jokes and bad voice acting were all probably intentional cause honestly the game is very unserious (they got bunnies f***ing each randomly in some parts of the game) but it wasn't doing anything for me at all. not even entirely sure what the story was about as it didnt get revealed completely until the end but even then it still felt very inconsequential i guess. overall id probably rate it a 5/10, good concept but it got old for me real quick.

currently playing the sequel and its looking to be way better than the first one from the lil bit of it i played.

finished sword of the berserk: guts rage on the dreamcast

me being a big fan of the series i figured its only right to try out the games from it. to my surprise from the little research ive done on it, the story was actually written by miura, which makes it canon to the manga as it takes place right after the conviction arc. unfortunately i dont think it translated all that well in the game. the story itself is interesting but the way the game tells the story it feels almost like exposition dumps as the game would give 3 or 4 cutscenes back to back and would do this more than once. also doesn't help that the voice acting is dreadful aside from the main antagonist, balzac (yes his name is ballsack). if it was in manga or anime format it would probably fare better as things would be more spread out and explained thoroughly.

the gameplay is pretty usual hack n slash type stuff but this being the first of its kind it definitely hasn't aged all too well. one complaint i have about it is that whenever guts sword comes into contact with a wall it leaves him in a vulnerable state for a few secs. now realistically this makes sense since the nigga carries a big ass sword, theres no way he can swing that s*** freely. which brings me to my next issue. this game has farrrrrrrrrr too many tight corridor areas. its very annoying trying to fight off waves of enemies when the game punishes you for swinging your sword near a wall. the only way to combat this was using the rage mode which completely negates the wall s*** and makes you invincible for a short period of time. but the problem with this is you can't choose when to activate it, as soon as red gauge bar fills up it activates instantly. not to mention the camera angles are jank as hell but thats to be expected with early 3D games.

some of the levels like pic above did look like something out of the manga so ill give them credit for that. even the models resembled the characters pretty well. the best being skull knight's model

game was pretty short as the runtime was about 3-4 hrs? so you could probably knock it out in a day if you wanted to. the boss fights on here were kinda challenging (zodd being the hardest one) but they're not too bad especially when you have the rage mode. overall id probably rate it a 5/10, being a bit generous since it is the first berserk game but the wall s*** really soured the experience for me a bit. im definitely looking forward to playing the PS2 game next as that looks quite good from the vids of it ive seen.

Anyone played the Radiohead kid a game playing rn

Jet Set Radio Future - 9.5/10

This game was amazing, The style, the music, the way you travel around the world, The level design just peak. It's like almost everything i love about traveling in 3d sonic put into skates. it's so fun simply just moving around and learning the stage so and going through a area in the most stylish way possible, There's multiple ways to get into one place. i could go on for so long about all the good things in this game. The only stuff that stops it from getting a 10 is just the fact that it's old so there's things that just get annoying (No camera movement at all with the right stick, Got lost a couple times and had to search stuff up, Lock on was very off) Amazing game tho would recommend to anyone who likes 3d platformers

just finished playing: Berserk: Millennium Falcon Hen Seima Senki no Shō and wow.

After completing this game, I genuinely had to look up the creators behind this gem because I couldn't believe it was made by the same people that were behind the Dreamcast game. Yukes has essentially made the best Berserk game AND adaptation ever. From gameplay to cutscenes, set pieces, soundtrack, sound design, and art style are just top notch.

The choreography for the boss battles, fatalities, and movement are mindblowing, damn near most if not, all of the sequences are callbacks to moments Guts has done in the manga. The attention to detail that Yukes has pulled off on this are really commendable. I wasn't even aware the PS2 was capable of pulling off s*** like this. I remember reading somewhere that these were motion captured?, which would explain the fluidity of these animations but I'm not a 100% sure if that's true, stellar work either way.

To speak a bit more on gameplay, the weight and feel of controlling Guts is unreal, it feels exactly how you would imagine swinging the Dragon Slayer around at enemies. The sound of slashing enemies into bite sized pieces are very satisfying to do and hear. I'll never get tired of hearing the sound of the arm cannon, it just has the right amount of oomf and even distorts the audio cause of how impactful it is. Guts also has an ability called fatalities, that allows you to do special kill animations to enemies (similar to glory kills in DOOM). He can also parry enemies and bosses attacks that will trigger a counter/QTE that do special moments that were done in the manga or creative animations that the devs cooked up themselves.

The story itself will feel right at home with manga readers as it covers the Millennium Falcon arc up to Guts gaining the Berserker armor + his fight with Grunbeld. I could go on for hours about how great this game is, even with the games downsides, very steep prices for ability upgrades causing a bit of a grindfest for experience points (although tbh this is a common issue with most games in this genre), the length of the levels ranging from an hour or longer (the latter being the case for the 2 worst levels in the game) but the highs pretty much outshines the lows. I HIGHLY implore any fans of Berserk to try out this game. It's truly a love letter from the devs to the fans. 9/10
