LOVE Wale. Have listened to all his albums and tapes, got a bunch of loosies and freestyles from him.
Here's why he's not Drake.
1. Melodies are decent, at best. Flows are repetitive and niche. Drake melodies and flows are timeless.
2. Bars are often too intricate to hit or too corny to like. It feels mechanical, like its his day job, interchangeable from one song to the next, not urgent or important. Drake is becoming like this too tbh.
3. Appearance - simply put, Wale doesn't have the X factor, the indescribile thing that makes you a star. No one wants to BE Wale. No one wants to dress like him, or ask his opinion about anything, although he is pretty knowledgeable about sneaker culture.
4. Twitter - he's very, very bad at twitter. Like it's almost incredible how bad he is at it. It's a real turn off tbh.
5. Generic R&B feature hooks on each album - these are honestly the worst, and he might be the worst offender of them all.
6. Make a worthy successor to Ambition
There are some people who bring up colorism as a reason as to why Drake blew up more than Wale despite them making similar "rap music for the chicks" tunes. But I really think it's simply because Drake had the co-sign of Lil Wayne who was at the time one of the biggest rappers in the world. Also being recognizable from his years as a childhood actor also helped give him a boost.
People really overlook how big the Wayne co-sign was for Drake. Wayne was huge in almost every circle and basically told the world "this guy is alright". Such things really make a break a career.

No wonder you think he should be Drake level
You just as sensitive as he is
he can rap as well and sing even better
also has women fanbase
and classics albums (attention deffecit, folariaan, and shine)
In what world does he rap better than or sing as well as Drake?

Honestly think this is the best answer in the thread even though I think the question OP was asking is silly. The only thing that Wale and Drake have in common is they’re both great at making hits geared towards women, but I think Drake is a better singer, writer, and crafting those types of songs (no slight to Wale he’s really great in that bag). Other than that they really have nothing in common besides the fact that I think they’re both strong rappers.
One last thing that I always think Wale screwed the pooch on is he stuck with the Seinfeld stick wayyyy too long. Like it almost became inseparable with his identity as an artist and by the time he distanced himself from it he was well into his career and the narrative had been set on who he was
Wale not getting the flowers he deserves is a tragedy fr cuz he talented
But you can’t compare him to Drake lol 2 different even tho very similar vibes
What a lazy answer.
That the Wayne cosign was the biggest part of Drake's early success? Sorry the truth is lazy and unexciting? Lmao

There were label wars for Drake before Wayne got involved
Edit: I just found out that So Far Gone was before YMCMB

funny thing is many people forget or don’t know wayne actually didn’t like drake at first and the only reason he gave him a chance is cause he thought drake could just sing on hooks or something like that
i think a studio session changed his perspective rap wise

What do U like about him cus this is like the whole wale experience to me
I don't think he's made strong enough music post 2015 to even be seen in the same competitive field as Drake or any other upper tier rapper
He has some soft of talent, it doesn't always connect for a n!gga so ion know I hate to say it, but n!gga is beneath the Wiz Khalifa's, The Big Krits, The Kendrick Lamar's, The Curren$y's, The J. Cole's, the Benny The Butchers, all that and he came from the same era as those names......
so yea, Wale ain't terrible but its def something about him that doesn't connect with alot of people, so he kinda blames his skin color for that, kinda lame imo
listen to any wale/cole collab and youll see he is simply not on that top level
This a lie. It’s ok if you like Cole more but to say Wale ain’t rapping at a top tier level is a lie

It’s a combination of all three to me
Also personality wise...Wale kind of a jerk lmao like he was often stating he was better than so and so or he should be getting more attention than whoever instead of simply just focusing on his craft, and that put people off.
I'm also sure the whole "It should've been Wale!" thing from Retch also gave him a negative light, and it became a trending meme from people who just wanted to hate on Wale whenever a random artist died.
But ppl don’t hold other artists who do the same to that standard. Meek been b****ing lately. Meg been on twitter going on rants. Doja crying talking she quitting. But when Wale did it 5, 10 years ago ppl still holding him to that. And saying he’s a jerk is weird. Most of Cole’s features is him saying he’s better than everyone but it’s Cole so it’s ok
