    It was a lazy effort;

-The album art literally speaks for itself smh

-He used 3 leaks that we’ve had for over a year now

-It sounds like he was rapping sitting down instead of standing up, his voice sounds winded, monotone, and not as aggressive as he usually does (ex Knife Talk should’ve been soooo much harder than what it was. He sounds soft on this beat, he needed to sound more angry like on some Worst behavior tone s***)

-Idk if bros vocals are deteriorating over time but he used entirely TOO MUCH auto tune. Bro was sounding like he can’t sing at all

    -Too many features

    -No album sequencing at all

-No growth in sound, flows, or content

-Idk how tf he didn’t lay a verse on Yebba’s song 🤦🏽‍♂️ like seriously

-Again (since Views released) he’s still trying to please his entire fan base instead of just making an
    Album he wants

-Fillers, fillers, and more Fillers. It sounds like he just through any songs together to make this

-He’s still “beefing” with Kanye 😴 like where was all this energy with Push ? Everybody knows Drake is better than Kanye currently, it’s annoying af and honestly just a marketing tactic

-No OVO features smh (PND or Majid)

-No night time sounding music (which is why I fell in love with bros music in the first place)

  • only thing i wish he did was sing more

Do you like d*** rappers like Pusha t? Do you love Jay Z? What growth and exploration did you see from them that drake needs to aspire to? Actually any of the goats. When Nas dropped kings disease were people looking for him to do anything other than rap well over dope beats ?

It seems like people take for granted how much different s*** drake does just because he’s been doing it for so long.

Y’all want him to rap about climate change on hard rock instrumental. He makes rap and RnB at a high level.

You're comparing Drake to people who were rapping in the 90s

I love how drake fans can agree, yeah things are lame and uninspired rn.. it's funny but also shows true fans

Not lame and uninspired. The highs on this album are really high. Do I think his projects are as good too to bottom as pre-2016? No. But songs like pipe down, N2Deep, No friends in the industry, 7AM on Bridal Path, Papi’s Home prove drake is anything but uninspired

I've never heard a Drake song like Champagne Poetry, F***ing Fans, Knife Talk, etc much less from anyone else. His unique sound is the best part. Cam you give examples?

You used the 3 worst tracks for your example.

Champagne Poetry (while one of my favs off the album) is not something he hasnt done before and has done better versions of (e.g. tuscan leather/over my dead body) the introspective “here i am back and here’s a summary” type of track.

Knife Talk sounds like a savage mode 2 leftoff. Also Sneakin’ which imo is their best collab.

But i will say one thing, you right about
F***ing Fans, he’s never sung a song about Rihanna ever. That’s DEFINITELY new lyrical content for him.

Soundwise its a mix of his older sounds. But we never heard Ye on sliding 808s before for example. And that is one of the best songs on Donda.

    Yikes.

I liked CLB, the production is great but he sounds boring sometimes, like he's not hungry at all

Which of these are top 20 Drake beats

CLB’s tracks were actually solid on their own

I said this in another thread but the inconsistent mixing, bad sequencing, and overall lack of cohesiveness really hurt it imo, feels more of a compilation album

Besides handful of the tracks on the album (2 sexy, Knife Talk, Only love twice, etc) feel like a leftover from those featured artists and Drake feels like the feature instead

Felt like CLB was very cohesive actually. I think its a good album, esp compared to his last. It's just not great or anything amazing. It's a typical formula Drake did before. But its def not bad imo

As someone who was around for RFI, CS, and was there when they post postponed SFG, was there when the 3 pack of Forever, I can Take Your Girl, and Stunt Hard dropped, etc.

I’m not really “disappointed.” To me it’s a drake album and I got exactly what I was expecting from it. Drake can be a bit formulaic to a fault when album time comes around, and I can understand why some would be frustrated by that.

If there is one thing that’s a downer, is that FOR ME he consistently can’t find a way to put his best records on his albums. Like, Chicago Freestyle should of been on this for example.

Stuff like that is my biggest gripe.

There is honestly not one banger I constantly go back to. Maybe Way 2 Sexy, but the video makes it better for me.

It’s indeed a good album, I’ll say it’s better than his past 3 non-tape releases for sure (Scorpion/ML/Views)

I disagree with it being cohesive cuz there isn’t a strong theme for this album and the structuring isn’t good at all. This feels like a More Life type of album in this regard, still most of the songs are decent.

The tracks I mentioned in that post you replied to are the ones that is ruining the album’s structure and merely feels like a throwaway from the artists album

We don’t wanna hear baby durk jay z we want drake drake drake drake!!!!

  • The features for the most part are also pretty messy

Like I can do without a few songs, and it’s mostly because drake is sharing the spotlight with others. Knife Talk, In The Bible, IMY2, hella meh joints that I could do without and the features on them are pretty mediocre to me

In general though, I liked scorpion a lot, I like CLB a lot, and it’s a Drake album for better or worse🤷🏾‍♂️

Truly don’t know what some people expected going into this LP

It’s like he’s the biggest act in the world so everyone tunes in and has these wild ass expectations when it was and always has been clear what the game plan is for album drake.

honestly the way this nigga talks about women is hella creepy and weird for a 34 year old father, dude needs to grow up

I don’t like this narrative, that he’s in his thirties and should grow up, I’m not there yet, but wait until you are and you still acting immature in ways that it surprises you you’re in your thirties, and you realize you judged people for needing to be “adults” by this weird timeline. Guy is being responsible in every way he needs to ie taking care of his loved ones, he’s not married tho he can do/say whatever he wants

Might be time to bring in some co-writers/co-producers from other areas of music. Work with some different kind of artists

  • Sep 5, 2021

I really like the album, but like most of his releases it's just too long.
My changes to CLB to make it even better (for me) would be:

    • "Love all" -> use the OG version and cut the Jay-Z verse
    • Cut "Knife Talk" and "Fountains" and put them on SM2 and a Tems' album respectively
    • Cut "No Friends In The Industry" and "7am On Bridle Path" and release them as Scary hours 3 after the Fri Yiy Show

This would make it 17 tracks 72 min (still very long) and not as much of a chore to listen to

I know this is a common thought and I’m def in the minority here but I’ve never once thought drake sounds lazy bored uninspired on his stuff. Not once. To me it did always seem like A laid back or serious or conversational or superior type of tone
