I remember him saying in Zane Lowe Yeezus Interview he sees albums like paintings, and he’s moving toward more cubist forms.

“Do I have to paint every angel wing”

Damn, this is interesting. Gotta go back and listen to this interview.

How did this thread from 2013 get on ktt2? That’s where the lyrical decline started obviously, idk why you’re surprised. For me the lyrics on here are probably better than the last 3 albums which isn’t saying much

Yeezus lyrics are great tho. They fit the aesthetic and his character on that album.

Okay but WHY did he choose write them in 2 days. Go deeper.

He redid most of the lyrics last minute to fit the new theme

Look at the difference in versions of selah and it makes sense

Would agree w this but yeezus filled w quotables

Technically pablo filled w quotables too but they’re low quality quotables definitely

I mean it's a Kanye song. Not like it was going to be a lyrical masterpiece anyway.

  • Oct 30, 2019

Kanye was never really lyrical, in fact some of his biggest hits make absolutely zero since.

I don't have a reddit or 4chan account so I'm probably not gonna be able to link up through any of your available social media.

Nigga said a 4chan account. Ease up Gramps.

Never bought that excuse at all. I’m not saying they’re awful overall but it was the first kanye album where he clearly declined and became cornier. Your explanation would work better for me if he returned to a different lyrical style after Yeezus but we pretty much got the same style for Pablo and Ye implying that it wasn’t just some conscious aesthetic choice as much as his natural progression and who he was working with on lyrics

On God is best writing on the album,

"I bleached my hair for every time i coulda dyed, but I survived, thats on god"

"Before the ranch I had horses in the garage"

"When I thought the book of Job was a job"

Settling down, getting married, and having children.

There’s literal science to this. He’s lost his masculine edge. Close the thread because it’s nothing but this.

This is dumb as hell. A majority of the greatest writers of all time have been married (or been in a long-standing relationship), had children, and have still managed to produce their best work while taking care of their children and spouse.

Yeezus is 100% Kanye playing an exaggerated character of himself. S*** like Bound 2 outro makes it really apparent that he’s self aware about how tongue in cheek the stuff he says is when juxtaposed with his reputation

You could definitely see improvement in the rapping on a number of songs meant for SHMG/ early iterations of TLOP or just recorded in SHMG era like Smuckers, All Your Fault, Sanctified, NMPILA, 30 Hours, etc.

  • Oct 30, 2019

He is less involved in his own music and thats why he is less interested in writing lyrics to these songs. I think the whole Drake-Quentin drama gave him a pass to use as many writers as he wants what made him even more lazy. He has like 5 producers on each JIK song, and can't even exec produce his own project judging by the material that he cut from JIK. I recently listened to Cash To Burn and you have to be delusional to think that it's Clemons verse and not his demo that Kanye can later copy. So people make beats for him, people write lyrics, and he gets to talk about his great ideas to Zane Lowe that's all.

How do y'all listen to follow god, on God and hands on and think the lyrics are bad
Just because he's not trying to weave triple entendres into every bar doesn't mean the lyrics don't have depth and meaning lmao

MBDTF was an exaggerated version of himself too the lyrics just didn’t suck. And for most of TLOP and parts of Ye he kept staying in that exaggerated place, I personally don’t think that it was as conscious of a decision as some people make it out to be
