A old and reactionary man, who found a segment of confused boys who couldnt find a balance in their digital life, because of how society has evolved. And they get instant gratification from surfing the internet, but get nothing done cus of it. Therefore they get unhappy with the life and turn to his book (i did read it) he give confused boys the antitote, by giving them order in a very chaotic time. Which is finw, but his views and political standings is for very old people, older than my grandpa.. snd many of his arguments can be countered.. for example thathumans behave more like bees and insects creating a society where there different jobs etc. Instead of the lobster a***ogy.. not much wisdom in his book..
I don't know much about bees, but aren't their roles predetermined from the birth? I know there is a queen bee or a queen ant this big creature that are spawning them then there are workers and basically soldiers, so aren't you born in one of them instead climbing heiriarchy etc.?
I think Jordan choose lobsters as they generate similiar chemicals in their brain as humans and react the same to the antidepressants.
dude can't even follow his own advice so why should I lmao
Dude ate an all meat diet and horse d**** and people wonder why he was a mess last year.
I'm all for personal development, but don't you think being as dependent on SSRIs and benzos as he was kind of disqualifies him from the self-help genre? I once saw somebody claim his daughter was "proof that his philosophy works", but she was on just as many meds as he was, and then I guess she ultimately went on an all-meat diet or some s***.
It's like someone who got liposuction writing a weight-loss book.
I definitely understand what you mean. But a key premise of 12 Rules For Life is humans being deeply flawed but accepting that and striving to do good anyway, so I wouldn’t say that rules him out.
But in a more general sense, I don’t think it takes away from the quality of his teachings. In my opinion, you don’t necessarily have to be a leading role model or even live by your own advice if it provides value and can help someone.
It’s what I was getting at with separating art from the artist - I enjoy consuming his ideas, then looking at that through my own lens and applying what I think is worthwhile to my life. I’m not worried about what Jordan Peterson actually does or doesn’t do; it’s the book I care about.
Even if I don’t agree with or see direct benefit from the concepts in his book, I’m open to the fact it might shift my perspective slightly on some issues and give me a breakthrough down the line.

Judging the messenger is often a useful heuristic for judging the message, but it's still only a heuristic. It's possible for someone to give great advice that they do not take themselves
In your example, imagine the weight-loss book was actually very effective, and most people who read it lost a lot of weight. This would make the book useful, despite the author not taking his own advice
He talks too much but idk it'd be stupid to say he hasn't given useful advice/helped a lot of people particularly depressed/virgin men with their life.
Used to listen to him for a bit but now i just listen to Uzi interviews.

Bees and humans social lifes has many similarities. More than lobsters fyi, not sure about our chemicals.. but how your brain work is a oversimplefication of human life. There is genes and memes (memes is a old word for what is trending in human societies)..
Just warning y'all from looking up to Jordan. He is hughly educated, so he know how to argue scientifically. But there are many counterpoints, try find a podcast where people discuss his book. Cus he is really trying to bring back the old gender roles and one marriage imo. And our culture is changing alot, so u might be looked at as a old man, if u read to many conservatives thinker.
Highly recommend learning about en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individuation
fr, isn't he just a grifter
all online political personalities are grifters. they go where the money is.
I don't follow him but at the same time I feel like there's worse people out there with big followings.
Unnecessarily hated if you agree with his political shilling and pandering to conservatives and losers
The guy waged a fake war against cultural Marxism (a concept he couldn't even accurately define) to pander to the alt-right leaning tendencies in today's political climate -
he srsly added to the pipeline of white males being radicalized for selfish reasons (money and fame to get more money)
You got anywhere I can read/watch/learn more about this?
A close friend brought him up to me a few days ago and told me one of his books was really helpful to him and when I brought up hearing that I heard he was on some weirdo right wing stuff my homie pushed back that people dismiss others off snippets/pieces of information too easily so I wanted to learn more to be able to talk about it with my friend

why dont you read the book your friend read and make up your own mind and discuss it with him instead of looking for youtube and ktt2 loserlectuals to give you your opinions for you?

Because it seems like there's a lot to him outside of his psychological writing and I want help finding it
Here's an example of something a different thread put me on
From that thread I can watch that clip and then watch the interview

okay man lol
Some of his s*** just seems like innocuous common sense stuff but for the most part he comes off as a privileged tool who likes to hear himself talk. His followers just seem like a bunch of young men with deep-seated daddy issues. Why else do you need some older man telling you to clean your room and stand up straight?
LMAO
last sentence has me dying it’s so spot on
Anyone who orbits Ben Shapiro 'nem and talks about Cultural Marxism hates both black people & women

And internally probably hate themselves.

disclaimer: U don't have to watch all the videos but here are some I'd recommend, for a quick read here's a good article link here
Hakim on youtube broke it down pretty well
here's a video about how jordan peterson doesn't understand postmodernism, it's a bit philosophy history heavy but still digestible imo
this one focuses on how peterson misrepresented the bill C-16, when he protested it and caused controversy by antagonizing the trans community, that moment kinda made him a hero for the right wingers if u remember his viral video surrounded by angry students on campus
