Chew tobacco chew tobacco spit brother!
I in no way think it is "objectively" better music but I enjoy it more so it is what it is lol
always a kid saying muh indie whenever someone criticizes the game industry like that’s what anyone is talking about
you’re no different than the hipsters in music sxn who constantly prop up redveil as some sort of hallmark that hip-hop is in a good place
I wish I was a kid
I don’t know what your issue with indie games are though. There’s no need to have AAA studios running the industry.
Gambling bigger than ever
bra even trotted out the nostalgia argument oh my god
Oh you’re like actually upset by my post lmao
I agree with some of your points like older games setting the blueprint for today, but that kind of goes for anything lmao
Also sounds like you’re being ignorant of the surge of indie games ie Balatro Cocoon Animal Well Heartbound Neon White Undertale to name a few.
I do agree that Half-Life is peak and nobody has done a story game better (except maybe valve again with portal lol). But they also pushed VR along in a positive with Alyx. Admittedly though, again, no one has done anything nearly as great with VR as they have.
It also sounds like nostalgia has bit of chokehold on you which is okay, it seems we all have memories of late night Halo 3/mw2 lobbies which probably was peak multiplayer since there was gacha bs.
Nah they’re good games and I agree the indie game scene is probably the best part of modern gaming. They’re not there yet though, we are in an awkward in between phase I think until indie games really come close to the old games. They’re where mainstream games were in the late 80s.
It’s going to be sometime before they can compete with any classic game.
I mean baldur’s gate 3 was the divinity original sin company, which was a crowdfunded indie project. Bg3 is one of the best games ever made.
But none of those indie games are remotely close to the classics yet.
Like there are still good games. I watch and play mario maker everyday and have for years. Not many games have had in the chokehold like that game has.
But generally speaking, it def peaked from the mid 90s to the mid 2010s

there is no problem with indie games. there is no point in bringing up non-mainstream auxiliary works in any medium when someone is criticizing it, as some sort of universal refutation that X industry or Y field is doing perfectly fine especially when the critiques are typically centered on the mainstream
@Snt_Michael never made a comment on specifically indie games, he was talking about the big triple-A titles (hence why he was s***ting on these studios for placing an emphasis on graphics as opposed to the actual innards of a game), obviously there’s going to be some games dashed here and there that are great and don’t suffer from the same issues. it doesn’t undermine his overarching point and it obfuscates convos, the same thing happens in music sxn
Oh you’re like actually upset by my post lmao
yeah it’s annoying seeing the same points whenever someone tries to have a genuine conversation about the current state of the entertainment industry
i think i’m allowed to feel some sort of emotion about that, right?

I def feel like indie games have been holding the industry up for quite some time now. I could see an argument being made that indie games are def in their infancy and would mostly agree, but I see them as classics. That could be my own personal attachment to the games though and note entirely objective.
Here’s a hot take about indie games im sure will generate some controversy.
Ai is what will close the gap between indie studios and big budget studios by allowing a small group of people to do things only large teams could in the past.
Im not talking about using ai to paint skyboxes or write stories.
But using it to make 3d animation rigging smoother, stuff with coding that’s beyond my understanding of it, looking for bugs.
Stuff like that

like this clarification shouldn’t even be necessary

There are some classic indie games for sure. Limbo, hollow knight, divinity are my favourites. Im playing yookah laylee right now and am enjoying it a lot (I dont get the hate for that game tbh)
But they’re just not as good or influential as the crème of the crop of the older games.
Which makes sense. We are comparing 10 years of games with a limited budget to 25 years of games that have some of the biggest budgets in the entertainment industry.

It’s nbd, the indie games are a positive part of modern gaming and will be the future. It’s worth mentioning, even if it’s a bit of a different topic than what i was saying.

You bring up a valid point that he wasn’t dogging on indie games, but he also was generalizing the games industry as a whole which why I brought up indie games. I also never said there weren’t issues with the games industry I even brought up gacha games being a focus on multiplayer - which is gross.
Also I don’t spend a whole lot of time in music season because there’s a lot of trolls and not much room for genuine discussion. You also came at my post trying to downplay 1 part of my post instead of conversing on all points I made.
I think a majority of not all people agree triple a studios are not in the best of place right now.

I actually agree with this people are to afraid of ai imo
The current country pop in question:

jokes aside I been trying to find more new country that sounds like this:
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSBHhPYNXhYHave you listened to Benjamin Tod? Feel like writing wise there’s some similarities
in general, i think longer forms of visual media like TV shows and video games are flourishing now more than ever. even podcasting and audiobooks seem to be popping off left and right
i think it has to do with the fact that it’s easier to chunk them down into smaller parts than say watching a whole 2 hour movie or something
Have you listened to Benjamin Tod? Feel like writing wise there’s some similarities
Definitely will listen when I get home
I actually agree with this people are to afraid of ai imo
I think so too! People are always scared about the new tech, photography, computers, etc. It’s usually irrational

@FragileOil_ and I have talked about this quite a bit. It reminds me of the same discourse people had with photoshop.

Yes 100% even though a large portion of what you manipulate on photoshop (aside from removing and changing things in photo) like contrast, brightness, saturation, the hues, etc. Is all stuff you could have changed in the camera before you shot the picture. Whether you do it in the camera or after doesnt affect the skill or legitimacy of the photgrapher.
Totally agree it’s very similar

This is only in relation to photo/video which is its own ballgame. In regards to games I do think generative/ai models can def push the indie scene to a bigger scale. I also believe programs like Blender (and other open source programs) should be pushed to be standard.
serialized YouTube channels
people that make TV quality videos about s*** like cars, food, random s***
I can confidently say Disney/Pixar movies are better now than before
nah. from 1999 to 2004 we had Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles
from 2020 to 2024 we had Soul, Luca, Turning Red, Lightyear, and Inside Out 2. Most of them are good (except Lightyear, that was ass) but only Inside Out 2 is classic imo
