I'm thinking about music producers but other fields may apply.

A lot of people move to big cities for music and without a backup plan. Some might get a couple of small placements some not even that. How will they make a living a few years from now? The thing is they don't even seem worried about their future.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something. I envy that they don't overthink things (like I do) but it seems kind of reckless.

I've never had the chance to move to the US since I'm from Europe but I've always wanted to make it as a producer and the chances are slim.

i wanted to do music prod after i was working a ft job but in the long run it was not worth it for me because i have no exp wat so ever

Lmao “I’ve watched vlogs of that area” dude thats cherry picking a point of view instead of actually living there yourself.

You dont get to have an opinion on this

It's 2020, people on the streets of Melrose, Fairfax , even west Hollywood you get a pretty good view of where the hive is lmao. I know there's more places but Even Earl sweatshirt said Hollywood is dirty and sketch half the time.
If I don't get to have an opinion on it then you don't either, all I'm saying is glorifying LA lifestyle isn't even that original you can make it happen somewhere else

Unless you've lived there yourself your opinion means nothing but armchair speculation.

There's homeless all over the country, speaks to a broader issue of income inequality and corruption than the designation of one city.

moving to LA as a music producer is stupid as hell

you can literally do everything through email/ig

if you do get lucky and work with someone big theyll most likely fly you out

Yeah... Just like there's diseases everywhere but it's not all the same lmao, there's a reason the joke of what could buy you a little apartment in LA will get a you a 3 story house in Texas

  • Jan 23, 2020

Back to the drawing board lmfao.

  • Jan 23, 2020

A lot of people that move to LA in hopes of “making it” end up being satisfied with simply surviving in LA working some call center job or some s***. I know a few out of towners that came here to be famous but are just happy to pay the expensive rent and party on the weekends

Jk, they probably find a regular job in LA or move back home. Might set them back a few years of career growth in their eventual mindless 9-5, but that’s just the risk you take.

realizing this i wish i just saved up and made a move to ATL or NY or LA bc at the end of it the worst case scenario is you have to go get a regular job anyway

Yea, I’ve been saving up to do it next year. I’ll regret it forever if I don’t go for it.

I agree but how are you supposed to network online when there's hundreds of producers doing the same?

Moving to LA with some placements under your belt seems like a good option though.

    OUT OF ORDER

Stop moving to LA you f***s

There’s already too many IG thots and youtubers here ruining the vibes

I was thinking about this the other day I was in LA. LA culture doesn't really exist anymore because it got displaced by all the people moving there from all over the world.

these types of posts always get LA people who get super pretentious about moving (even though they moved there themselves at one point) saying s*** like "dont bother, go home, too many people, we dont need you" etc and it is so corny

Move there if you want, HOWEVER

Music accessibility is stronger than ever, no matter where you live. There really is nothing stopping someone in Kansas, or Utah, or North Carolina, wherever, from building a little base of supporters online, shooting some basic music vids, sending your s*** to online publications and getting s*** popping to a certain degree

Even though I wont tell you not to move to LA, I feel like a lot of musicians who arent willing to do the groundwork for their own career AT HOME think that by moving to LA, the city will do the work for them.

This is not true. So you really have to think to yourself, have you done everything you can for your own career and reached the limit set by your geography? Do you have enough buzz to translate into leverage once you move? Or are you hoping that a new zip code will come with a career
