Thank god that wasn't true. At least in your case. What genre do they shine the brightest with? How many pairs of headphones do you have?
Live albums due to the soundstage, a lot of rock music where the guitar notes sound so crisp. Honestly they excel in all genres unless you want a lot of bass but my dac boosts the low end so it works out well.
Only those for headphones but I did pick up the IE 800s and they are like a miniature version of the HD800s, having a lot of fun listening to some of my fav albums again.

The good life It makes you appreciate live music more than ever before. You're already in the big leagues with hi-end headphones. Once I get my LCD-2Cs I'll cross over to the other side of the pond. I'm still nervous to drop $900 for a pair of headphones, but music is my life, so I know I'll put them to good use.

Headphones are a great purchase due to how much time we spend listening to music. Those will definitely take your listening experience to the next level

True. You're more of a 'one for all" kind of guy, in terms of headphones and genres. My goal is to have one that specializes in different sounds and genres.
One for classic music, one for modern music, one for soundstage and one for intimacy. I'll upgrade within those as time goes on.

Feel like I wouldn’t get my money’s worth if I done it like that but to each their own. Would be a lot of fun switching out for genres but also slightly tedious. I try and go for more natural sounding headphones/iems which mostly perform in various genres.

It can be, but I go through stages where I mainly listen to one genre for who knows how long. Two at the most. So it won't be so bad. They'll never be one that is good enough for everything, unless you EQ it and I don't believe in doing that. Any albums that sounded awful on the 800s? For example, I can't even listen to Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree album anymore because it sounds like absolute s*** on the Sundaras. I can't believe how poorly recorded that album is. As soon as I heard that thick hiss on the verses of Clowns I knew it was wrap lol

Ah yeah I see what you mean, makes sense. I never EQ anything, takes away from the cans signature sound.
Only Elvis Costello with My Aim Is True but tbh that album didn’t sound great on my 660s either but not bad enough that it’s not listenable. Don’t think I’ve come across an album that I could say that for.

Exactly. That album has always sounded like s***. I've heard 3 remasters of it from different decades and they all sound like s***. You can't polish a turd. I wish the master tapes were in better condition. With that being said, what a good f***in album. How long have you been an audiophile for? It's a little too late to not consider yourself one with your pair of cans lol

Pretty sad :(
Maybe 3 years or so, when I got my first set of cans with the dragonfly usb lol. S*** was a game changer for me at the time though.
You?

A product of its era and genre, tbh. At the end of the day, it's the music itself that matters most.
Two years ago my gf got me some Audio-Technica M40xs for xmas. Neither of us knew anything about "audiophile" headphones (outside of beats) and I was surprised by how detailed the music was lol
Now I can't help but chuckle at how innocent / wide eyed I was, but it was groundbreaking for me, at the time. Now I'm on my 5th pair of cans and I'm still not satisfied.

Literally that’s how it goes lol, give it a few years then something else will come out that’s held as the best. Such an expensive hobby but extremely satisfying.

It's a rabbithole that's never-ending. My pockets are hungry and crying, as we speak. The headphones won't go to waste because as soon as I upgrade I'll give each one to my brother or gf instead of just letting them collect dust.

That’s the way to do it, got a few of my friends in the audiophile hobby from some of my old gear.

"All in all a nice sounding ‘fun’ but not realistic sounding headphone that is very forgiving/flattering with lower quality recordings.
Applying a bit of felt makes it less sibilant sounding.
Of course this headphone can be corrected with the Kameleon amplifier quite a bit further.
Below the difference between the stock DT990Pro-250Ω (RED) and via the Kameleon (GREEN) amplifier."
I can't believe I just spent $450 on 1 pair of earbuds... and that was a sale, they're normally $500.
