Just watched this the other night I found the cinematography and performances brilliant, but I didn't quite understand it either and had to Google "A Clockwork orange explained" Thought it was about how p*** has the power to corrupt the mind of young men, but the free will angle is way better . I'll have to rewatch it because I actually understand it now, which I don't mind because while I've only seen The Shining and this, Kubrick's style is just You can also see how this movie influenced Heath Ledger when playing Joker.

Overall I enjoyed it even though I didn't quite understand its message But I will say that it can get quite graphic Won't ever recommend this movie to a girl, those rape scenes were hard enough for me to sit through

Do you mind giving me the explanation you saw? For me the movie was graphic and I'm sure it would have been very controversial back then but wouldn't put it in my "top 10 films to not recommend to your girl"

After watching it, I felt like the book would be 10x better. S*** is just collecting dust on my bookshelf though.

    it's not that much better.

best part of the movie are its technical aspects.

I just hit up Reddit for movie explanations and read a few of the top comments, I like how someone else can reply and give a different interpretation

Maybe its because the sexual assault rates are so high in my country and its a risk many women here have to deal with, but I would not be able to look a girl in the eye after making her sit through some of those scenes

"And this is where we realize the true message: more important than being good or evil is having free will". This quote clears any confusion anybody has about the theme. I think the theme is powerful and is the only thing this movie has that I really like. The dialogue and the way they spoke was boring to me. The aesthetics and graphic violence was probably unique years ago but I've already been desensitized by current films to feel any shock value from the movie

2001 and Clockwork Orange are the most overrated films I've seen tbh

It’s been a minute since I’ve seen clockwork orange. I was still in high school and I found it boring.

But 2001 overrated how? It’s an epic tale of humans evolving from monkey to super being, focusing on events far in the past and future. Compares them, asks the audience where we’re going. In order to evolve, the monkeys had to overcome eachother using intelligence. Then to further evolve the humans had to overcome Hal: intelligence itself.

Plus anti-gravity, video calling family members, space food.. all a decade before Star Wars.

take or leave clockwork orange, the book’s fine without it. But 2001 is one of our epics, you should def rewatch.

Honestly it's one of the best book adaptions ever made. Really true to the book & even has a better ending than the book too.

definitely not the best book adaptation imo. It’s true to the original story, but the best adaptations improve on their source material
