The OG
You just don't get how deep The Wall is. It's like, there's this wall around him, and the wall symbolizes a wall.
Edward skeletrix, though he has my aoty so far

What does it mean for someone or something to insist upon itself
It means its pretentious
U could say anything "tryhard" aka good insists upon itself. Its a pointless distinction
"it insists upon itself" is a valid argument for why something is bad when it calls attention repeatedly to how intelligent it purports to be or how "deep" it is. it's basically just a stupid way of saying "it's pretentious and loud about it"
with that being said the answer is objectively jpegmafia's entire career
What does it mean for someone or something to insist upon itself
Seth McFarlane recently spoke on this, adds to the lore a lot imo
“Since this has been trending, here’s a fun fact,” MacFarlane wrote. “‘It insists upon itself’ was a criticism my college film history professor used to explain why he didn’t think The Sound of Music was a great film. First-rate teacher, but I never quite followed that one.”

Basically
Mfs want nonchalant art
Or every jam band release ever
nah good jam band is the opposite of pretentious. arguably get deeper into pure music than any other genre but jazz. pretty well zero artsy posturing. for me pretentious means making some grand artistic statement that you cant actually even articulate. these guys aren't doing that.

Duane Allman
i can’t believe i’m a year older than the age that he died too f***ing young man
the creator himself had to come out and explain the joke is that peter’s stupid btw
https://twitter.com/sethmacfarlane/status/1881825910040702979Doesn't matter. Audience took control of the joke and intention the day it aired.

I genuinely feel like 'it insists upon itself' is the greatest phrase to use to define jam lol. every note insists into the next and it just continues and/or noodles as a result of the last note/whatever
and Im not a jam hater if youre getting that vibe lol

https://twitter.com/sethmacfarlane/status/1881825910040702979Not to overanalyze this scene (but here we go), I don’t think Seth is saying Peter’s whole point is stupid. That phrase was a silly/stupid phrase pulled from Seth’s life but I think overall this scene is more making fun of movie debate and being mad at someone for not liking a classic like how Peter can only admit this right before they’re all going to die and he was right to keep it bottled in because everyone gets mad at him for it. It’s not that Peter is stupid it’s that the way we discuss art (movies) can be very silly, on both sides

Agreed. On the topic of the silliness of film debate,
Something insisting on itself literally doesn’t even make sense as a criticism of art
Creativity exists to insist something. A feeling, thought, energy. ANYTHING
Just another way for miserable people to spin “I didn’t like this” into “This thing things it’s soooo smart”
And these people have no way of being inside the head of whatever artist they’re talking about. So what it actually is, is jealousy that you aren’t a creative that is capable of making layered works of your own. Most likely a Letterboxd addict too that spends 80% of the time watching a film thinking about how your rating of it is fluctuating out of 10, from scene to scene.
Sounds awful, and I really hope you find solace!
