At the risk of sounding like an idiot, can someone explain what even is the a***ogy in the line "Closed on Sunday, you my chik-fil-a"?

I get that Chik Fil A is closed on Sundays, but who is the "you" Kanye is talking about? I'm not even sure if this line is trash or not because I literally don't understand what he's trying to say. It'd be like me saying "Closed on Mondays, you my barber shop"?

I took it as how the lgbtqxxx attack chickfila and try to close them down because it one of the only major companies that has faith

I think Closed on Sunday’s means to not pay attention to anything but his family and loved ones. He’s closed to distractions and other s***. Idk lol

  • jesus is king, jesus is lord

  • What if him and Kim started f***ing at church? Would everybody start f***ing?

Timbaland production on this is on sight, but yeah the lyrics are dumb especially the part when he yells out CHICKFILLA I have to skip it every time it comes on

Song's bullshit honestly lol I hate Chic Fil A so much. Worst company. Instead of "JUST" supporting anti-LGBT politicians, those guys literally MADE a law happen in Uganda allowing murder of any LGBT people. Funded it. Blood on their hands.

Maybe he could of referred to an old song and say something like "Closed on Sunday, you're my Only One.... closed on sunday you're my only one"

Agreed. I think even the original "closed on sunday" idea was to have a day of rest, to pray or whatever you choose to do and get away from mindless consumerism. They should bring this back not as a Christian thing but for everyone honestly.

but he's referring to "you". Why not just say "I'm". It's like he's making a specific example out of somebody, but I'm not sure who it is.

Sometimes certain words sound better than others in a verse. Could’ve just thought it sounded better that way.

I think sometimes we get way too literal when thinking of lyrics cause we are so used to how rap is.

the "you" is a general you - its Kim, its us, it can be christianity itself he is talking to etc.

he's making a connection to the general "you" and using chic fil a as a comedic metaphor. its ok.

like most lyric-related criticisms of the album - good idea bad execution.

But being closed implies not doing something on Sunday. It can't be God, because Sunday's the Lord's day. It can't even be about himself because he's actually do the most on Sundays these days. If it's about Kim it still makes no sense because nothing else in the song expounds upon that or even references that.

The line would legitimately make more sense and fit into what you're saying if he just said that they were Chik-fil-a. But by saying that they're also closed on Sundays, it's implying theres some kind of specific comparison there and that the connection is both of these items happen to be closed on Sundays.

He says "put the 'gram away," which refers to Kim.

He says "put the 'gram away," which refers to Kim.

so does Kim not post on Sundays? Because the way he's delivering the previous line seems to imply that the person is already closed on Sundays, so it seems kind of contradictory for him to then tell her to put the 'gram away.

i don't disagree about over interpreting lyrics, generally, but the way it's delivered, the context of it in the song, the fact that it's the title of the song... all of this seems like it's framed for a more direct meaning. This a***ogy is essentially the backbone of the song, but it doesn't actually work because it's an incomplete thought.

You gotta get the number 1 deluxe, with colbyjack and pour a chick fil a sauce on the chicken.

I thought it was about people who take Sunday as family day so their closed for 'buisiness' or whatever like Chik-Fil-A.

It could also be about not having s***on Sunday?? So maybe the 'you' is Kim

They'd be my guesses but it's not that obvious

Chic-Fil-A, a business that takes the risk of putting faith over profit by closing on Sundays in devotion to God. It also emphasizes prioritizing family over anything else (literal profit of the ‘gram’).

It’s someone putting it all on the line for faith and family - maybe his wife, who knows. All wrapped in an incredibly banal and corny lyric that at the same time makes you smile a bit.

Good thing the second half of the song more than makes up for the goofiness, however relatable, with serious bars and amazing sonics. As much as I enjoy the Chic-fil-A reference, the corniness makes me wish something else were there in its place.

I don't mind the bar, it's a lot better than Pablo's sandwich bars
