We need another album like 18 Months and Motion.
Need a 3rd Riri collab, the one Calvin co produced doesn't count
Yeah I just asked a question about their opinion
It sparked 11 pages of discussion too
I guess between this and that thread it's clear this site just wishes it was Twitter
Collaborative albums are like lighting in a bottle because each song is literally a completely different formula with completely different ingredients.
So when you find the right ingredients, you probably shouldn’t wait 5 years before dropping the next album. Things change, people change, the world climate changes, people’s palettes are much different than when vol.1 dropped
I won’t say if the album is worse or better, that’s opinion. What isn’t is that most artists can’t live up to a follow up after a 5 year absence. That’s simply suicide. It’s impossible to live up to to that 5 year absence.
Calvin Harris doesn't seem to have his finger on the pulse of where mainstream music is/where it's going like he did on Vol. 1 which made it such a lightning in a bottle moment, like many others have said Vol. 2 feels phoned in and contrived while Vol. 1 felt natural and an actual encapsulation of the music scene at the time with effort put into it. If he really wanted to make a follow up in the same vein he would've pulled people like keem, brent, pinkpantheress, fred again, bad bunny or steve lacy to get on it. To me, the fact that he used a scrapped song with 21 from Vol. 1 on this kinda just gives it away that this was label mandated and not really coming from a genuine place like the first. (I'm also saying this as a fan of Harris in general, not just the first Funk Wav).
Did he really wanna make this projects? Cuz I swear people were clamoring for a vol 2 but I can’t even recall when it dropped
S*** just SOUNDS flat and cheap. Every artist is mixed really badly and all the beats are flat and lifeless as hell

Came out too late
Summers over
this too, the album didn't even stand a chance tbh. The first came out mid-late June iirc why the hell did they wait till the summer was starting to come to a close to drop Vol. 2
They let the first one getting meme'd by casual Twitter listeners hype them up
Did the first one get hyped up?
I only remember hearing Slide and thats it

Yeah it became one of those "can't wait until CH finally drops the sequel to this 😫" tweet deck ass albums that would garner 50k likes on every tweet
And then they paid the new album dust
Wash rinse repeat
keeping it a stack
1st one was never all that either
First one had good lead singles at least tho, and was released during the ending of spring which made it successful throughout the summer and the following summers
ON GOD IN HEAVEN
never got it, this 2nd one sounds the exact same and everyone is saying its weak
first had a lot of the best and hottest rappers from that era
second is just a bunch of random acts

Calvin Harris after everybody begged for vol 2 for 5 years just to s*** on it immediately:
A few things:
A lot of big radio hits took cues from the Funk Wav sound between albums, so this one doesn’t sound as fresh.
Instrumentals are all kind of the same tempo and structure. Makes it all sound very low energy and bland.
No synergy between the artists and instrumentals. Sounds like they dropped acapellas from different songs on top of the beat a lot of the time.
One of my friends described Vol 2 like they ran the first one through an AI generator, which is accurate imo.
Levitating is definitely inspired
i will say the features vol 1 had were all super hot at the time
who should vol 2 have featured that wasnt on there
Silk Sonic
Tyler
Uzi
Kodak
Lil Baby
SZA
Summer Walker
Brent Faiyaz
Flo Milli
