It actually still exists in the underground but the underground has been split in 3 which made it harder for lyrical rap to stand out

The underground rn has opium rap, street/drill rap and lyrical/drumless/neoboombap rap

Compared to the 90s-2000s where it was just lyrical rappers and street rappers

I’m talking about your Jedi Mind Tricks, Pharaoh Monch, Canibus, etc. Crazy lyrical rappers rapping about pyramids and planets and really not making any sense but they could technically rap extremely well. I really can’t name any modern examples of that lane idk what happened
