I’ve seen a lot of kids who don’t know what they want to do after high school.

Some waste time and money on a degree, some pick up dead end jobs, some pick up d*** habits and party. Some do all of that!

I always thought that 18 was too young of an age to push kids into the real world. Mandatory service would help young adults mature and develop constructive interpersonal skills by providing them a disciplined lifestyle. When they get out, they’d have a much better time navigating the real world than if we just pushed them through the system at 18.

in a vacuum mandatory service is not a bad idea. however, in the context of the US DoD, this is probably the worst idea I have ever heard in my life.

Forcing someone in the military will not help contrary to your belief. What makes you think itll be easer I after getting out? Your life is still on hold doing something you don’t want to do.
