    This

Before that we had number of rappers dropping posse cuts and collaborating with each other liberally. After Control, they became more competitive and closed in, which sucks cuz the number of collabs after that reduced

that's insecurity that got nothing to do with rap itself becoming toxic.

And we been getting phoned in collab albums since.

    Delete this, very problematic thread

As always, it’s not rap that’s toxic, it’s reflecting a toxic country and culture and set of circumstances dipshit

    That dipshit was so unnecessary

I will ALWAYS blame AK for the current state of rap fans. He made outsiders see black men dying as some form of entertainment. I don’t care what anyone say, he’s part to blame for this mess.

nah it can't be solely on academics. the people in those situations have always made light of murdering each other. say what you want about him bc he had an impact on it, but its not the entire reason. people have always seen stuff like that as entertaining as long as they're not the ones in it. thats how ppl like chief keef even got an audience

It’s probably less toxic than it ever was. There was always that element of degenerate hood s*** in rap, and there used to be a lot more emphasis on artists being “authentic” to that. Nowadays, a lot of the big names are basically just pop stars that are being pushed by labels.

Yeah this is true. Guess we can be happy about the mainstream artists accomplishments though.

    le epic poster xD

You've had a negative outlook on everything lately

In a good mood, just wanted to get some good discussion going.

Don't know why everyone is so angry about what I wrote; considering some users didn't even read the thread???

I used to hear all types of rap groups, before sampling loops rappers wore bell-bottom waist suits

100% agree. I think it’s just natural decline after reaching extreme highs. People are dying in the streets, and folks grab their popcorn along the way like it’s a Broadway act. It’s not, and it’s disgusting that people glorify it

Maybe he's the one that really got it to go mainstream

Brought it to a general audience?

But to address it. Turns out, when you open the floodgates to allow anyone can become a rapper, and there's no more middleman that can stop someone from getting in the door because of a past reputation (e.g. DMX was getting passed around labels for years before his debut because of his bad reputation) when you can just have a career independent.

you start getting niggas that probably shouldn't be rapping, becoming full on rappers.

Thank you bro. Glad that you recognize the huge problem going on.

As viewers, we are truly watching s*** hit the fan and yet most people will not speak up about it.

It's even more disgusting that some people will go as far as to MEME it.

We've had more collab albums than ever prior to Control fam what?

Label albums aren't really being a thing anymore but that's because most labels aint really making that much money.

Said that it was always toxic

So you’re asking when did it become toxic but also acknowledging it’s always been this way

    this too ngl.

it's corny for Chance to write about his marriage (and granted, the Big Day was not a well made album) but it aint corny to rap about bodies that you nor your gang didn't even catch or even know? Or bodies of pretty much children?

is it oochie wally or is it one mic

I rock with you bro but this seems kinda goofy when niggas like Mubu Krump and Melly spent all day on IG live cracking jokes about dudes dying

    Von too lol

The only thing fatkademiks did was aggregate it in a more suburban friendly manner

In all fairness, most Kurupt verses between '98 and 2000 that dealt with women we just charge it up to him hurting over Foxy Brown.
