I mean I get the idea that people didn't like the way it was mixed/mastered... but the idea that mixing should follow a single lane in order to please not the artist but the listener is very weird. For instance it's very well documented that Kanye listens to his music super EXTRA loud during studio sessions. Doesn't it seems logical that MBDTF's mix follows the same trend ? Isn't the whole thing about diving into what Kanye had in mind ?
I remember reading the exact same thing about Astroworld and people being pissed 'cause Travis wanted the whole thing to be mixed in a particular way. As long as an album mix isn't what it is out of laziness I'm personally down to hear everything if this is what the artist wants me to go through
This is a really interesting perspective I never looked at. Thanks for this
nah shoutout rick rubin my hearing ain’t all too great want that loud s*** to make me bleed internally
The loudness addict is the consumer on his IG watching snippets. The loudness addict is whoever listens on his TrashCans and needed more bass. 🤷🏽♂️ Aint there fault
This y distorted bass is so popular because it's the only way to hear the bass on s***ty speakers
some of them thangs look like straight blocks lmao
but honestly i don’t think most listeners really notice this stuff aside from the audiophiles and ppl who make music
a really loud / compressed master isn’t necessarily a bad thing imo - a lot of the artists in the south florida scene for example use it in a way that compliments their art (SGP, XXX, etc)
If your waveform doesn’t look like this you don’t know s*** about mastering
Bump, we need more discussion on this
what do U want people to say about it people clearly are making the music that resonates with them they're not gonna dial it back cus of this sound engineering 101 lecturer ass rationale
Mixing is so subjective, like personally I don't think u need to mix that much for hip hop if you have good drum samples/sounds already
The problem is when people mix TOO much and either make the track too compressed (mbdtf) or too gutted particularly in the mid/low ranges
People make beats without mixing them at all frequently you wouldn't even notice if it's done right. Like the dude above said mixing/mastering is sort of an illusion because half the time you have no idea what was mixed vs what just happened naturally

this is it
people get so mathematical about mixing just to have their song sound like a car commercial

Why’s that?
this is it
people get so mathematical about mixing just to have their song sound like a car commercial
It’s nothing mathematical about it I’m just saying I personally prefer to have dynamic contrast in the music I listen to for the most part. Not that deep
I don't consider myself an "audiophile" but I love music and sit around listening to albums on my headphones in my free time, so definitely more into the sound of things then the general public.
Not all albums need to have a tight, perfect mix. MBDTF is amazing the way it is.

which is fine its just that in art there's no one size fits all rule, certain movies suit a glossy, clean 8k super high tech photography style some suit a gritty lofi handheld documentary style. it depends on whatever the artist is trying to accomplish. the best recent instance of this in music is SRS - the people that get what he was doig with that mix either love it or felt it was a stroke of genius the people that dont thought it was "lazy" or unfinished u get me?
The worst is when you can tell verses that are phoned in
